TP 770 - How can I use my modem in a different country
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
The Advanced Communications Processor ThinkPad modem that ships with some models of the ThinkPad 770 can only be used in the US, Canada and Japan.
CONFIGURATION:
Initial shipments of all ThinkPad 770 systems that shipped with the Advanced Communications Processor.
RESOLUTION:
The ThinkPad Modem Country Update Diskette will allow you to use your ThinkPad Modem in the following supported countries:
US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and New Zealand. To download this
file from the BBS or external Web Site, the filename for the diskette is MODCU770.EXE/TXT or double-click here 
for
immediate access to the files.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Installation instructions for the ThinkPad Modem Country Update
For Windows 3.1x or Windows NT 3.51 users:
1. Insert ThinkPad Modem Country Update Diskette into the diskette drive.
2. Open the Program Manager menu and select 'File' then 'Run'.
Type 'A:\WINDOWS\SETUP', then press Enter.
3. If you wish cancel this procedure, you may do
so by selecting 'Exit' on the first screen. Otherwise,
select 'Continue'.
4. To complete this procedure, you need to restart Windows.
If you have other programs running and you wish to
close them first, select 'Exit to Windows'. Please note
that you will need to restart Windows yourself to
complete the procedure.
For Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 users:
1. Insert ThinkPad Modem Country Update Diskette into the diskette drive.
2. Select the 'Start' button on the task bar and then select 'Run'.
Type 'A:\WINDOWS\SETUP', then press Enter.
3. If you wish cancel this procedure, you may do
so by selecting 'Exit' on the first screen. Otherwise,
select 'Continue'.
4. If the Ring Central application is installed on your
system, you may see a message telling you where you
can download the latest application updates.
5. To complete this procedure, you need to restart Windows.
If you have other programs running and you wish to
close them first, select 'Exit to Windows'. Please note
that you will need to restart Windows yourself to
complete the procedure.
For OS/2 users:
1. Insert ThinkPad Modem Country Update Diskette into the diskette drive.
2. Open an OS/2 command prompt window.
Type 'A:\OS2\SETUP', then press Enter,
3. If you wish cancel this procedure, you may do
so by selecting 'Exit' on the first screen. Otherwise,
select 'Continue'.
4. To complete this procedure, you need to shutdown OS/2.
If you have other programs running and you wish to
close them first, select 'Exit to OS/2'. Please note
that you will need to shutdown OS/2 yourself to
complete the procedure.
