TP 560Z - Installing Windows 2000 Beta 2 on a blank hard drive

These instructions were written based on installing Windows 2000 Beta on a blank hard drive.
1. Boot the machine with the Recovery CD in the CD-ROM drive and allow the preload to install (ON AC POWER).
2. Copy the contents of the i386 subdirectory into an i386 subdirectory on the D:\ drive (this is more easily done with the preload since drag and drop copies subdirectories as well)
3. Boot a Windows 95 startup diskette and format C: only.
4. While still booted to Windows 95 disk, type the following command at the A:\ prompt:
EDIT D:\I386\TXTSETUP.SIF <ENTER>

Press Alt S, and then press <enter> and search for ACPIENABLE.
Scroll down about 10 or so lines and find the following line:
ACPIenable=2

Change the line to read:
ACPIenable=1

Save the file and exit the editor

6. Change to the D:\i386 subdirectory and type WINNT /B and press <enter>.
7. Press <enter> when asked for the path to where the Windows NT files are located.
8. Please wait while setup copies files.
9. Reboot (make sure to remove the floppy disk).
10. Press <enter> to continue setup.
11. Press <enter> again.
12. Press F8 to agree to the EULA.
13. Make sure C:\ is highlighted and press <enter>.
14. You will be prompted for which file system you want to install (all our tests have been on FAT). Press <enter> on the choice to leave current file system intact. Press <enter> again.
15. Windows 2000 will check the hard drive.
16. Windows 2000 will begin copying files - this will take some time.
17. System will reboot.
18. Graphical interface starts.
19. Windows 2000 is preparing to start the Windows NT setup.
20. Press Next at Windows NT Setup Wizard.
21. The Setup Wizard will install Windows NT Security Features and then will install and configure devices.
22. Press Next at Regional settings.
23. Enter your name and organization.
24. Enter your computer name and an administrator password.
25. Click Next at the Video screen (installs are usually best using the default choices).
26. Click Next at the Time and Date window if correct. If the information is not correct, enter the correct date and time and click on Next to continue.
27. Click Next at the installing Networking window (network cards should NOT be in the machine during installation)
28. Please wait while examination occurs.
29. More files are copied.
30. Windows 2000 configures your computer.
31. Click Finish to finalize and then restart the computer.
32. They system will reboot to the administrator password. Enter the password to continue.
33. Change the background to Winnt256.
34. Insert the ThinkPad Utility Diskette for Windows 2000 (disk 1) in to the floppy drive and run A:\setup.
35. Click Next at Welcome screen.
36 Click Next when prompted where to install the driver to accept the default.
37. Make sure that Custom is selected and then click Next.
38. Remove the check mark in Personalization Editor box.
39. Click Next.
40. Click Next when prompted what program folder to use to accept the default.
41. Files will be copied. When prompted, insert diskette 2.
a. When being prompted for the second diskette, it will ask for the Windows 98 diskette. Ignore this message and insert diskette 2 of the ThinkPad Utility Diskette for Windows 2000.
b. When prompted, insert the ThinkPad Utility Data diskette.
42. Program groups are then created and Setup will state that it needs to restart the computer. Click finish.

Video Installation
Right click on thedesktop, select Settings, change colors to High color 16 bit change screen area to 800x600, click OK, click Restart with new settings. Click Yes to restart.

Audio Installation
Audio is installed by base OS installed.

TrackPoint 4 Installation
1. Run the Hardware wizard via Control Panel, click Next and select Add new hardware (last item).
2. Click Next, click Add new hardware wizard and let the wizard search for new hardware.
3. Click Next, click No, click Next, click Mouse, click Next, click Have disk, click OK (ensure that the TrackPoint IV device driver diskette for Windows 2000 is in the floppy drive at this point).
4. Select IBM PS/2 TrackPoint, click Next, click Next, click Yes to installing controlling keyboard devices. Click Finish and then reboot the system.
