Aptiva - 2140-L61/L71: Resetting 56K Modem to allow dial tone recognition
Applicable to: Canada, United States
Situation:
Users of 2140-L61 and L71 systems may experience difficulty with the 56K modem recognizing a dial tone.
Solution:
One effective method of restoring normal modem function is to let Windows 95 reinstall the modem driver.
1. Click on "Start", "Settings", "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on the "System" icon. This will open the System Properties window.
3. Select the "Device Manager" tab.
4. Find the "Modem" entry in the list that appears. Double-click on "Modem"
5. Click on "LT Win Modem", then click the "Remove" button.
6. Click on "Start", "Shutdown", and then select "Restart the computer?". Click on "Yes".
7. Windows 95 will now restart the system and automatically reinstall the modem driver upon detection.
