Description:
DVD Express fails playback with error "Invalid disk/drive found" even through a correct DVD is in the drive.
Models Affected:
All 2163 and 2164
How to duplicate:
1. Set up system manually using 15" Acer non-ddc monitor
2. Change resolution to 1024x768x16bpp
3. Change monitor to a high end DDC monitor such as IBM G94
4. Attempt to play a DVD using DVD Express
Root Cause:
At certain refresh rates the RIVA 128ZX fails to build an overlay surface for video playback. These refresh rates are used as 'Optimal' on certain DDC monitors. These invalid refresh rates are also sometimes used as 'Default' for the 800x600 mode to which DVD Express switches. If the monitor type is listed as "Unknown Monitor" an invalid Windows 98 default refresh rate sometimes is used.
Workaround:
1. Ensure that Windows 98 has identified the monitor or is using one of the standard SVGA types.
2. Change video resolution to 800x600x16bpp temporarily, Change the refresh rate from 'Optimal' to 60 hz, then change back to normal viewing resolution.
