Aptiva - What is the SYS command?
Applicable to: United States
The SYS command transfers the operating system files, i.e. IBMBIO.COM, IBMDOS.COM and COMMAND.COM, from the source drive to the target drive. It is used when installing DOS on a new diskette (to make a boot diskette) or hard drive. System files, IBMBIO.COM & IBMDOS.COM, are hidden and read-only. Therefore, they are not listed by the DIR command. As a result, they cannot be copied in the conventional manner, i.e., using COPY or XCOPY. The SYS command must be used to transfer system files.
