IBM WorkPad - Setting PalmPilot Modem to Ignore Dialtone
Applicable to: United States
SYMPTOM:
The PalmPilot Modem seems unable to recognize a dialtone on the line when attempting to dial out. Although the line seems fine the modem will not dial with a dialtone.
SOLUTION:
Where the PalmPilot Modem is incapable of recognizing a dialtone or where it cannot get one, program the modem to ignore any dialtones prior to making a call. Also, Follow the Instructions below:
1. In the application screen on your WorkPad, tap on the Prefs icon.
2. In the Preferences screen, select Modem from the categories menu (on the top right-hand corner of the screen).
3. In the String field, find "AT&FX4". Add "X3" to the end of the line so that it reads "AT&FX4X3".
4. Check to see that the other modem preferences are correct, then try to dial out.
Note: This string may also work with other attached modems besides the PalmPilot Modem to allow you dial out without a dial tone. If not, consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer of the modem you are using for more information.
