IBM IntelliStation/IBM PC - Universal Management Agent (UMA) usage tips

Applicable to: World-Wide

The following are usage tips when installing, uninstalling, and configuring Universal Management Agent (UMA) in the IBM PC series and IntelliStation systems:

UMA Uninstall Does Not Remove DOSBIOS Shortcut
After uninstalling UMA and restarting the system, the following error message is returned; "DOSBIOS.BAT. Cannot find the working folder for this program." After uninstalling the UMA application, "IBM DMIBIOS Instrumentation" may remain in the Windows Startup folder.

Manually remove the shortcut to eliminate the error message.

PC Health - Chassis Alert Notification Does Not Clear
When running UMA version 1.0, pressing "Clear" on the Chassis tab in PC Health does not clear a chassis intrusion notification after confirming that the chassis (cover) is closed. To correct the condition in UMA 1.0, download PATCH6562.REG from UMA web page at www.pc.ibm.com/us/desktop/uma/umapatches.html

MAX Thermal Sensor Monitoring Not Supported on UMA 1.0 in IBM IntelliStation Z Pro Series 6865 systems
UMA 1.0 does not support reading MAX1617 thermal sensors in Slot-2 processors on Z Pro Series 6865 systems. Thermal monitoring for the system is still available through the AMD9240. This enables AsssetCare to work correctly in the Z Pro Series 6865 systems when running UMA version 1.0.

UMA Installation Halts at 70% Completion
During an installation of UMA, the program appears to be active, but the blue indicator line stays at 70% complete. To complete the installation, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Windows task list. Select and "End" the OIDINST task.

CoSession 32 and CoSession UMA Dual Installation
In order to allow both CoSession 32 and CoSession UMA to operate on the same system, open, and remove from the Windows SYSTEM.INI file, the following duplicate entry:

device=c:\windows\system\csldr.386

Installing UMA, UMA+, and Norton Antivirus
The UMA, UMA+, and Norton Antivirus applications should not be installed at the same time from the RTC or Software Select CD because of system resource intensity. To prevent random installation errors, these applications should be installed one at a time, with system restarts after each application installation is complete.

System hangs at the Windows 98 shutdown screen
After installing CoSession and UMA+, the system may hang at the Windows 98 shutdown screen. Because the CoSession application is also contained in UMA+, it gets installed twice. As a result, the entry "C:\windows\system\Csldr.386" is listed twice in the SYSTEM.INI file.

To correct the hang condition, edit, and remove the second duplicate entry of "C:\windows\system\Csldr.386" in the SYSTEM.INI file.

UMA "Setup Complete" window opens in the background
After the UMA installation is finished, the "Setup Complete" window may open behind a UMA folder created by the program. Users may think that the installation has halted at this point. To complete the UMA installation, minimize all open windows to reveal the "Setup Complete" dialog box and select to restart the sytem.

UMA Plus Uninstall Fails Under Windows 98
The UMA Plus uninstall may fail to complete when the number of colors displayed is set to 256. The Windows 98 256 color display drivers do not display the UMA Plus high color backgrounds correctly. To correct the condition, increase the number of colors displayed in Windows 98 to a 16-bit color depth (65,536 colors) and restart the UMA Plus uninstall.
