Applicable to: World-Wide
To use a serial mouse on the ThinkPad 310 just follow these simple steps:
1.) Using your trackpoint in Windows 95, click on Start, then Settings and then Control Panel.
2.) Double-click on Mouse.
3.) Click on the General tab. Under Name it should say Standard PS/2 Port Mouse.
4.) Click on the Change button.
5.) In the Select Device window, make sure (Standard mouse types) is selected under Manufacturers and then select Standard Serial Mouse under Models.
6.) Click OK. Name will now have changed to Standard Serial Mouse. Click Close.
7.) It will then prompt you to restart the computer. Click No.
8.) Click on Start, then Shutdown, and then Yes.
9.) When the computer has powered itself off, attach the mouse to the serial port on the back of your computer and then turn your computer back on. Your mouse should now work in Windows 95.
Note: If you are going to be traveling where you are not going to be using your serial mouse, you must remember to change the mouse driver back before disconnecting the mouse, otherwise you may not be able to use the trackpoint in Windows 95 if the serial mouse driver is still loaded.
