Aptiva - 2140/2142 Aptiva Desktop Customization gets stuck in a loop

Symptom:
Sometimes the Aptiva Adventure may get stuck during the installation of the Aptiva Desktop Customization program.
Rebooting the machine and rerunning the Aptiva Adventure does not resolve the problem.

Solution:

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del. The Aptiva Adventure will be shown as not responding. Highlight this task and click on the End Task button.
  2. The Desktop Customizations installer will now be visible showing an error that it has encountered a read-only file.
  3. Click on cancel, and then exit the installer.
  4. Close all other programs except explorer and systray. To do this, do press Ctrl-Alt-Del and click on each of the programs and use the end task button to close them down.
  5. Rerun the Aptiva Adventure program from the icon on the desktop. The installation will proceed as normal.
