TP General - Audio stutters during playback of MPEG or AVI files

Symptom:
Audio stutters on any ThinkPad while playing MPEG or AVI video files.
Configuration:
ThinkPad with IBM PCMCIA 10/100 CardBus EtherJet Card installed under Windows 95/98. Note: Not all ThinkPad support CardBus PC Cards in the PCMCIA slots on the ThinkPad. Some configurations may require the use of a port replicator to support CardBus PC Cards.
Solution:
This is a symptom of the card being polled by the operating system when it is not attached to the network. The stutter does not occur when there is a network connection. Stop the PC Card either using CardWorks (if your ThinkPad uses this support) or the PC Card utility under Control Panel before playing .AVI or .MPG files to prevent this symptom and then restart the PC Card when a network connection is to be made.
OR....
Go to Control Panel --> Network and then select the IBM 10/100 EtherJet CardBus Adapter, click Properties --> Advanced --> Cable Detect and select the value OFF (the default value is ON). This will stop the operating system from polling the card. The limitation here is that the card must be attached to the network when booting into the operating system or the system must be rebooted to make a network connection.
