Aptiva - How to install / uninstall CompuServe
Applicable to: United States
To remove CompuServe from your Aptiva: 21xx-Mxx, Axx, Cxx, & 2159-S64 through S78 series with Windows 95:
1. Click on "Start", "Shutdown", choose the option to "Restart in MS-DOS mode", and click on "Yes".
2. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type "CD\" then press "Enter".
3. At the C:\> prompt type "DELTREE CSERVE" then press "Enter".
4. Answer "Yes" to delete all subdirectories.
5. Type "EXIT" then press "Enter" to return to windows
To re-install CompuServe on your Aptiva: 21xx-Mxx, Axx, Cxx, & 2159-S64 through S78 series with Windows 95:
1. Download and run the file APTRSTOR.EXE available at the IBM WWW\FTP\BBS site's Aptiva file area, ftp://ftp.infania.net/pccbbs/aptiva/aptrstor.exe. Run the file to expand files to a floppy diskette, then at A: prompt type "go" to install "restore.exe" to your hard drive.
2. If at Windows desktop, click on "Start", "Shutdown", choose the option to "Restart in MS-DOS mode", and click on "Yes".
3. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type "CD\" then press "Enter".
4. Insert the Aptiva Product Recovery CD into the CD-ROM drive and wait for the drive light to go on and then off.
5. At the C:\> prompt type RESTORE CSERVE\*.*then press "Enter".
6. This will unzip all the CompuServe files onto your hard disk. When it is done, type "EXIT" then press "Enter" to return to Windows.
To re-install CompuServe on your 2159-S80, 2159-S90, 2136, 2137, 2138, 2140, 2142, 2161 & 2162 series Aptiva:
1. Click on "Start", "Run", then type, "C:\progra~1\online~1\compus~1\cs3kit" then press "Enter".
2. Click "Yes" to install.
3. The CompuServe Setup screen gives you options for "Express" or "Custom" setup and an icon to click to view the "readme" file for more information about CompuServe. This file may be viewed later from the CompuServe program group. Click on the "Express" icon for normal install.
4. After files are copied to your hard drive you will receive an option to start CompuServe now. If you wish to start CompuServe now and see setup options for connections, leave check-mark in box and click "Finish". Otherwise, remove check-mark and click "Finish".
To install or re-install CompuServe on OS2/Windows 3.1 systems:
1. Boot with Recovery disc one and proceed to Recovery disc two when instructed.
2. Select option #6, "OS/2 Prompt" and press "Enter".
3. Insert Multimedia Exploration CD into the CD-ROM drive.
4. At the "A:\" prompt, type "D:" and press "Enter".
5. Type "cd recovery" and press "Enter".
6. At "D:\RECOVERY" type in lower-case, "unzip system cserve\*.* -d c:\" and press "Enter".
7. At next option type uppercase "A" for replace all files.
8. When screen activity stops, type "exit" and press "Enter".
9. Remove the CD and floppy diskette. Restart the computer.
