Aptiva - 2159 Startup errors 8603 or 5886
Applicable to: World-Wide
Question:
When I start my Aptiva 2159 computer I get either an 8603 or a 5886 error during the Power On Self Test?
Answer:
These errors will occur if you do not plug both the mouse and the keyboard into the same device (i.e. the tower or the media
console). The 2159 models come with a tower and a media console, each with a set of mouse and keyboard connectors.
If you plug the mouse into the media console and the keyboard into the tower you will receive the 8603 error. If you reverse
the cables (mouse in tower, keyboard in the media console) you will receive the 5886 error. To correct either of these errors,
power down the system, then attach both the mouse and keyboard cables to either the tower or the media console. Power the
system up again and the error will be gone.
