TP General - Communicating via Infrared to other devices using Windows NT

Applicable to: World-Wide

SYMPTOM:
When using hyperterminal (direct to com1) to communicate between an HP200XL and a ThinkPad, all you see is "IBMIRDA" repeatedly (like they are actually communicating, but can not establish a common 'protocol').

CONFIGURATION:
Trying to connect a HP200XL to the ThinkPad via infrared under Windows NT.

RESOLUTION:
The IR driver for the WindowsNT is for using with RAS client-server connection only. The NT driver has no capability for other IR communications. It supports a protocol which is used for RAS connection only, and this RAS client-server communication only supports ThinkPad to ThinkPad connection. The IR driver for the WindowsNT does not support communication between other PCs. Please refer to TPWINT40.TXT for information on how to configure Dial-Up Networking for RAS communication.
