Aptiva - Fixed disks do not take up an open adapter card slot.

Applicable to: United States

The fixed disks installed in the PS/1 and Aptiva computers do not take up an adapter card slot. Adapter card slots are used to install devices including internal modems, sound cards, and TV capture cards. Fixed disks are installed in a slot called a drive bay which is specifically designed to hold the drive. The number of drive bays in your particular system is determined by the system type as follows:

2011- M01, C01

Bay one 3.5in. externally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

Bay two 3.5in. internally accessible drive bay (open)

2011- M34, C34, T35, U35, NEA

Bay one 3.5in. externally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

Bay two 3.5in. internally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. hard drive)

2121- NE3, B82, A82, M82, A94

Bay one 3.5in. externally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

Bay two 5.25in. externally accessible drive bay (open )

Bay three 3.5in. internally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

2121- NE2, C42, C92, G42, S92

Bay one 3.5ÆÆ externally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

Bay two 3.5in. internally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. hard drive)

2123

Bay one 3.5in. externally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

Bay two 5.25in. externally accessible drive bay (Open )

Bay three 3.5in. internally accessible drive bay (houses system's 3.5in. floppy drive)

2133

Bay one externally accessible drive bay ( holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 102.2 X 28 mm / 4.024 X 1.102 in.)

Bay two externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 147.3 X 44 mm / 5.799 X 1.732 in.)

Bay three internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 102.6 X 32.7 mm / 4.039 X 1.287 in.)

2144

Bay one externally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

Bay two externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 149.0 X 41.3 mm / 5.87 X 1.625 in.)

Bay three internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

Bay four internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

2155

Bay one externally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 102.2 X 28 mm / 4.024 X 1.102 in.)

Bay two internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. half high drive / 102.2 X 42 mm / 4.024 X 1.654 in.)

Bay three externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 147.3 X 43 mm / 5.799 X 1.693 in.)

Bay four externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 147.3 X 45 mm / 5.799 X 1772 in.)

Bay five internally accessible drive bay ( holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 102.6 X 29 mm / 4.039 X 1.142 in.)

2168

Bay one externally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

Bay two externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 149 X 41.3 mm / 5.87 X 1.625 in.)

Bay three externally accessible drive bay (holds a 5.25in. half high drive / 149 X 41.3 mm / 5.87 X 1.625 in.)

Bay four externally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. half high drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.625 in.)

Bay five internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

Bay six internally accessible drive bay (holds a 3.5in. slim drive / 101.6 X 25.4 mm / 4.0 X 1.0 in.)

Externally accessible drive bays are used to install devices such as floppy, tape, and CD-ROM drives. Internally accessible drive bays are used to install fixed disks. Actual installed drives vary depending on the model of the 2133, 2144, 2155, and 2168 system's.

For system specifications, instructions, and diagrams explaining how to physically install additional drives in your system, look in your system's documentation. If you have a PS/1 computer, look in the Adding Options to Your PS/1 Computer booklet. If you have an Aptiva look in your Aptiva Hardware Handbook.
