TP 770E/ED - Considerations

MULTIMEDIA LIMITATIONS

• If you play back an MPEG file in 640 x 480 x 600 screen expansion mode under Windows NT, the image will shift to the left in the play back window. cannot switch the display mode from LCD to external TV out or external CRT. If you want to change the display mode you need to change it before you open an MPEG file to play.
• You cannot place the system into the suspend mode or nor hibernation mode while you are playing an ActiveMovie under Windows 95. If this occurs any operation attempt to resume will cause a fatal exception.
• If you hot-undock the system after MPEG files are played a fatal exception will occur. Recommendation: Do not hot-undock after MPEG playback.
• You cannot play MPEG2 file that resides on a remote server over network using certain network adapter/CardBus cards.
• DVD Movie playback is not smooth when LANDesk Client Manager is loaded.
• You cannot play DVD movie in 1600x1200 256 color mode.
• The DVD Player cannot locate the DVD drive location (that is, the drive letter) if the configuration is changed, docking or undocking.
• During a long connect time, Intel Video Phone will occasionally disconnect.
• Video capture/overlay/MPEG playback functions are not supported in the following video modes:
• 800 x 600 resolution and 16M colors
• 1600 x 1200 resolution and 256 colors
• All 16 color modes
• Virtual screen mode (such as 1280 x 1024 on an LCD)
• MPEG CD-i Interactive is not supported.
• 1024 x 768 256 color mode is recommended for better motion video quality of MPEG2/DVD playback.
• Audio streams are decoded in software. MPEG/DVD playback performance is contingent upon the speed and power of the system.
• IBM MPEG2 and ZV card cannot be used simultaneously.
• 3D acceleration is supported under Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 only.
• 3D acceleration is not supported in 256 color mode.

OS/2 WARP 4 LIMITATIONS

• CardBus PC Cards are not supported under OS/2 Version 4.0.
• OS/2 native full screen mode does not support video modes 0,1,4,5, and D: All of these unsupported modes are 320 x 200 resolution.
• ZV Card is not supported under OS/2 Version 4.0.
• OS/2's native mouse driver does not work with ThinkPad 770. The TrackPoint driver must be used.
• Under OS/2 Win-OS2 session, TrackPoint Scrolling function is not supported.
• When installing OS/2 Version 4.0 into a hard disk with more than 4.3 GB capacity, use the installation diskette in Diskette Factory.
• OS/2 Version 4.0 does not boot when docked to SelectaDock I (This was fixed with FixPack 6.)

WINDOWS NT LIMITATIONS

• DVD Movie playback is not supported under Windows NT 4.0.
• CardBus PC Cards are not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
• Multi-function PC cards are not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
• Boot from PC Card HDD is not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
• ZV Card is not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
• Do not place the system into the suspend mode (press Fn + F4) while playing MPEG files (pressing Fn + F4) with the MediaPlayer under Windows NT.
• While you play an MPEG file with MediaPlayer under Windows NT, you cannot switch the display mode from LCD to the external TV out or the external CRT. If you want to change the display mode from LCD to the external CRT or TV monitor, you need to change the mode before you open the MPEG file to play.
• While you are capturing the video/audio data with a video capture application under Windows NT, you cannot switch the display output device from LCD to the external CRT or the external TV. If you want to change the display device, you need to do that before starting a capture application.
• When using an IBM PCMCIA Token-Ring card under Windows NT 4.0, use the token-ring device driver IBM provides, not the Microsoft PCMCIA token-ring driver.
• When an IBM communications card is installed the system cannot enter suspend mode while on AC power. The system cannot enter hibernation mode while on AC power with an IBM communications card or modem PC card installed.
• CardBus does not support plug/unplug operations during suspend mode in Windows 95 and Windows 3.11.
• Capturing is not supported on the external TV (NTSC mode) under Windows NT. It can be supported on LCD and the external CRT.
• You cannot play MPEG files in PAL mode on the external TV under Win-dows NT.
• If you place the system into the hibernation mode while you are playing MPEG files under Windows NT, upon wake-up you will get unrecognizable information at the bottom of the screen.

OTHER LIMITATIONS

• In IBM PC DOS the largest hard drive size that can be partitioned is 7.9GB. This is a limitation of DOS. Use Windows 95 FDISK utility to partition and format larger drives.
• The ThinkPad 770E & 770ED supports SDRAM memory only.
• LANDesk Client Manager (LDCM) cannot be installed if Netfinity has already been installed. NetFinity and LDCM may conflict with each other.
• After installing LDCM, its related programs are always running in the background. If you experience an installation failure of application programs, uninstall LDCM and re-install.
• DMI BIOS does not support Warm/Hot Docking/Undocking.
• Remote system shut down through network management software is not supported during standby state in Windows 95.
• LDCM is unable to manage clients via remote LDCM interface after the system has suspended or hibernated.
• A second CardBus card can not be configured automatically.
• Warm and Hot Docking/undocking is not supported on SelectaDock I/II/III in Windows 95 when certain PCI cards, PnP ISA cards, and PCMCIA cards are installed in SelectaDock I/II/III.
• PC cards in SelectaDock I/II/III are not recognized after warm docking.
• The Following PC Cards are not supported.:

• Adaptec APA-1480A SlimSCSI CardBus
• Melco IFC-UC CardBus UltraSCSI Adapter (Adaptec "re-label")
• Noteworthy (Toshiba) Video Conferencing CardBus Card (Intel Vorlon silicon)
• Ositech 10/100 BaseTX Fast Ethernet CardBus Trumpcard 7 of Spades (SMC silicon)
• SMC 8032 CB Ethernet Adapter
• Ositech 10/100 Ethernet/56k Combo CardBus Adapter (SMC silicon)
• Madge Token Ring CardBus
