PCServer704 - Installing WinFrame

Overview
This application note describes how to install WinFrame on an IBM PC Server 704 system. The IBM PC Server 704 is a high-performance, symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server that is ideally suited for networking environments requiring superior microprocessor performance, efficient memory management, flexibility, and large amounts of reliable data storage. The PC Server 704 provides both Extended Industry-Standard Architecture (EISA) and high-performance Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) expansion slots.
Software Requirements
WinFrame Version 1.6 or higher with Service Pack 5 or later

Installing WinFrame
1. Update the IBM PC Server 704 system BIOS.
2. Boot from the IBM PC Server 704 SCU diskette Select Option 1 (Non-PnP Operating System) and then select Option 3.
3. Select Edit System Board Configuration and change the MP Spec from 1.1 to 1.4. Exit to the Main Menu and select Save Changes and Exit.
4. Boot the IBM PC Server 704 from a bootable DOS diskette and run the DOS FDISK utility. Create an active partition that is the size of the partition that you will define to install WinFrame. This partition does not need to be formatted; WinFrame Setup will format the partition.
5. Select either Express Setup or Custom Setup when prompted for the installation type and press <Enter> to continue.
6. WinFrame Setup displays all recognized SCSI controllers (there may be none present). Press <S> to configure additional SCSI controllers.
7. Expand the list of additional SCSI controllers, select Other (located at the end of the list), and press <Enter>. You are prompted for a driver diskette.
8. Insert the IBM PC ServeRAID Adapter Device Driver/Utilities Diskette and click OK. The device drivers on the diskette are displayed. Select the IBM PC ServeRAID Adapter driver and press <Enter> to continue. Press <S> to configure an additional SCSI controller.
9. Expand the list of additional SCSI controllers, select Other (located at the end of the list), and press <Enter>. You are prompted for a driver diskette.
10. Insert the Adaptec 7800 Family Device Driver Diskette and click OK. The device drivers on the diskette are displayed. Select the Adaptec AIC-78xx for NT 3.5x driver and press <Enter> to continue.
11. Finish installing WinFrame using the instructions in the Installation Guide and Quick Install Guide.
