TP 770 - How to install and uninstall the ACP modem in Windows 95

Applicable to: World-Wide

This document only applies to those Thinkpad 770 models that come equipped with the Advanced Communications processor.

If you are installing software on your PC for the fist time, follow these steps:
1. Place diskette #1 in your floppy Drive.
2. Click Start and Run.
3. Type a:\setup.
4. Click OK.

Note: If Windows 95 prompts you for the location of the modem files, enter "A:\" in the field provided and select OK.

If you have a previous version of the software on your PC, and you want to upgrade, reinstall or remove it, follow these steps:
1. Place diskette #1 in your floppy Drive.
2. Click Start and Run.
3. Type a:\setup.
4. Click OK.
5. Follow the instructions provided.

When the software has completed removing the existing version, you will be prompted to upgrade your modem software.

If you do not wish to upgrade at this time, when Windows 95 prompts you for the current driver of an "Unknown Device"
select Next and then select Finish.

If this is an upgrade, the install will reboot your PC, at which time you can continue the installation process.
Follow the installation process the completion.

NOTE: After the PC reboots, Windows 95 will display a message that it has found new hardware. The prompt asks you to insert the driver diskettes. You will then be prompted twice for the path of the driver diskettes. Please enter the same source path for the driver diskettes at each prompt.

NOTE: Some users may need to run the Country Selection Application after installation to change the default country. Reboot after running the Country Selection Application.


Additional ACP modem installation information
If a user has installed Windows 95 on a new hard disk, the modem will be assigned as an "Unknown Device" in the Device Manager under the "Other Devices" section. To remove the Unknown Device from the Registry and Device Manager, do the following steps:
1. Insert the first installation diskette in the A: drive.
2. Execute A:\SETUP from the "Run dialog panel."
3. As the system restarts, the DSP will be found as a new device and the installation will proceed as normal.

When refreshing a system that has the software already installed, follow these steps to erase the DSP device from the Registry and cause the system to be rebooted:
1. Insert the first installation diskette in the A: drive.
2. Execute A:\SETUP from the "Run dialog panel."
3. As the system restarts, the DSP will be found as a new device and the installation will proceed as normal.
