TP General - Very low or no sound although volume is turned up
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
Customer reporting no sound or very low sound.
Configuration:
Systems with sound capability, e.g. 365X, 560, 760 Series. All drivers are OK; settings are OK including volume control slider/thumb wheel set to a high level.
Resolution:
Many of the ThinkPad audio systems/applications have multiple places to control audio volume. If you are experiencing a problem with low audio sound you need to make sure you check all of the volume settings. Make sure the physical volume control on your ThinkPad is turned up to an adequate level (for testing purposes you can turn it all the way up to make sure you can hear it). This will usually involve a volume control slider or thumb wheel on your system or a key combination. Refer to your user's guide if you can not locate the volume control.
The next thing to check is the volume control for Windows 95/98.
To do this click on the Speaker icon in the bottom right had corner of your screen. This will bring up a Volume Control window. Make sure the volume sliders are at an adequate level. For those systems that use Mwave (some models of the 755, 760, and 765) there is one more place to check the volume settings. Click on Start, then Programs, then Mwave ThinkPad, and then Audio Control. Again make sure the volume sliders are at an adequate level.
