TP General - Windows NT fix available for hangs on shutdown with PCMCIA

Microsoft has posted a fix for shutdown problems with PCMCIA devices. See http://www.microsoft.com/kb and use a search on Q108261. (or wait for Service pack 2 to arrive).

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows NT Workstation versions 3.51 and 4.0
Microsoft Windows NT Server versions 3.51 and 4.0

Symptoms :
Windows NT fails to shutdown correctly on some computers that have PCMCIA devices installed.

Resolution :
Obtain the following update or wait for the next Service Pack.
A modified PCMCIA driver for Windows NT, and instructions for installing them, are available from Microsoft support channels or directly from the following Internet locations:

For Windows NT 3.51:

For Windows NT 4.00:

Status :
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT versions 3.51 and 4.0. A supported update for PCMCIA driver Windows NT versions 3.51 and 4.0 is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this update. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services for more information.
