Aptiva - 2159-S80/S90 Hardware diagnostic procedure for sound or modem difficulties
Applicable to: Canada, United States
The 2159 S90 or the 2159 S80 machines were the first US Consumer Brand products to be built with a separate soundcard and modem in several years. The machine comes with a diagnostic CD ROM which contains software that can check the system as well as these devices.
To check the sound card and modem do the following:
1. Put the Diagnostic CD into the CD ROM drive.
2. Turn the computer off. Wait 15 seconds, and then turn the computer back on.
3. At the menu run Easy Diagnostics.
4. When the QA Diagnostics menu screen appears, hit the 'ESC' key.
Both the Lucent Modem and the Crystal Audio Soundcard will be tested and the results displayed to the screen at the end of the test.
NOTE: If choose to run diagnostics in the manner described above, it will bypass the system hardware test. However, it will not erase the log file from the last execution of diagnostics. Therefore, if you choose to follow step 4 above, you must scroll to the bottom of the results in the dialogue windows for the most current execution of diagnostics.
