IBM MM55 monitor noise problem
Applicable to: EMEA
TEXT:
The following Tip applies to the MM55 Monitor ( Machine Type 2116 )
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When the power cord is attached to the MM55 ( type 2116) monitor with the on/off switch in the off position, it is possible that there can be a high pitch noise (whistle ) from the monitor.
Monitors affected by this problem were built before 24 September'97 and have a serial number of < 60,0000. The problem is caused by crosstalk onto r805 which causes noise in the surrounding components.
FIX:
The vendor has issued a rework instruction to their repair vendors to solder a 560pf/1kv capacitor from the joint of R805 and R809 to ground. The final fix for boxes built after 24 September was to upgrade/install a new level of PCB card (revision 2).
