A black bezel in 3.5" and 5.25" form factor will be included with the IBM 4/8GB TR4 EIDE Tape Drives manufactured after 16 Feb 1998. The black bezels will fit the IBM 4/8GB TR4 SCSI Tape Drive. A kit is available as FRU p/n 03K8763 (TR4 Black Bezel Kit) for the 3.5" and 5.25" black bezels. The FRU kit contains both bezels, and there is not a FRU p/n for individual bezels. FRU p/n 03K8763 has been loaded as an option against a 1year CCE warranty (OBIW100).
The IBM TR4 4/8GB EIDE Tape Drive will be a white drive that ships with black bezels. The TR4 4/8GB SCSI Tape Drive will continue to be shipped as a white drive with no black bezel. If a customer has converted their tape drive from white to black, and then wishes to change the device to a white drive but has misplaced their white bezel, IBM will offer a black solution only. A white bezel will not be offered as a FRU. The FRU p/ns for the TR4 IDE and SCSI Internal Tape Drives will continue to be white only.

If a customer has a request to convert their TR4 Internal SCSI or EIDE Tape Drive to a black format, use FRU p/n 03K8763 for them. Drives purchased after 15 Feb 1998 will begin to include black bezels.
The TR4 Recess Bezel Kit continues to be offered with a white 3.5" form factor throat with new rails. It is an orderable part from LENA as FRU p/n 03K8665 against OBIW200. WW geographies and servicers may order FRU p/n 03K8665 for the TR4 Recess Bezel Kit. If the customer requires a black drive in a recessed form factor, they must use the TR4 Black Bezels with the TR4 Recess Bezel Kit. The TR4 Recess Bezel Kit is now included with the TR4 Internal SCSI or EIDE Tape Drives."
If a 3.5" Black Form Factor is to be used in a recess format, the white faceplate of the TR4 Tape Drive is removed and should be saved for possible future use. The 3.5" throat included with the TR4 Recess Bezel Kit should then be applied to the drive, and the 3.5" Black Bezel attached to the throat. The drive may then be jumpered and installed in a 3.5" bay.
If a 5.25" Black Form Factor is to be used in a recess format, the 5.25" black bezel should be attached to the metal rails from the TR4 Recess Bezel Kit. The white faceplate of the TR4 Tape Drive is removed and should be saved with the 5.25" white faceplate from the 3.5" to 5.25" conversion kit for possible future use. The 3.5" throat included with the TR4 Recess Bezel Kit should then be applied to the drive, and the 3.5" Black Bezel attached to the throat. The drive may then be attached to the 3.5" to 5.25" conversion rails using screws and not the retaining clip. The drive may then be jumpered and installed into a 5.25" bay.
