Aptiva - 2158/2163/2164 Considerations - DVD parental control fails
Applicable to: World-Wide
Description:
DVD Express parental control fails
Models affected:
All with DVD
How to duplicate:
1. Open DVD Express
2. Bring up the Options Window
3. Select the Parental Control tab, type in a password.
4. Select any other setting than 'Disabled'
5. Attempt to play a parental enabled DVD. The DVD will not play.
Root cause:
Parental control is broken because of a bug in DirectX Media 6. As long as the Apply button is not selected, parental control is disabled. Once the Apply button is selected to send the changes to the Navigator, all parental enabled discs are blocked. Microsoft is aware of the bug and no fix has been promised.
Workaround:
Clicking "Apply" with the "Disabled" selection highlighted will restore the ability to play all discs.
