NOTE: This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system.

Installation Guide
Note:

* Use this driver package only for the ThinkPad 770, 770E, 770ED, 770X, 770Z.
* Close any application that uses this Video Capture driver.
* Before installing, make sure that you have installed the following software in the computer:
- Video Features IV v1.22 or later for Windows NT4.0
- Utility Features v4.14 or later for Windows NT
- If you use the earlier version of utility and video features, it may cause the system to hang when the video capture application shows the captured image on the screen. It is required that you update the Windows NT 4.0 display driver to latest version.
* Asymetrix Digital Video Producer can be used for Video overlay.

Installing the Video Capture/Overlay Driver
Before installation, ensure that all applications which use the IBM MPEG-2 device are closed. If you run Media Player, close this application.

Following are the steps to be carried out to install the driver from our installation package.-

1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
2. Logon with administrative privilege.
3. Extract the drivers onto the hard disk.
4. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
5. Double click on the "Multimedia" icon and click on the "Devices" tab.
6. Click on the "Add..." button. The 'Add' window appears with a list of drivers.
7. Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" and click the 'OK' button.
8. At the "Install Driver" window, specify the directory where the driver files are extracted and click on the 'OK' button.
Default path is C:\DRIVERS\WNT\CAPTURE
9. System does some processing to install the driver. It takes a few seconds and then the window titled "About Video Capture Driver" appears. Click the on the "OK" button.
10. The window disappears and you are back in the Multimedia Properties window again. Click the mouse on OK button and you are back in the Control Panel window.

Known Issues and Helpful Hints:

1. Windows NT color depth changes will affect the captured data (preview, overlay). The user should close the video capture application before changing color depth, and then restart the application.

2. The driver has power management support, by being a client of ThinkPad Power Management Port Driver. This requires the user to have installed Utility Driver. In its absence, the driver will not function properly if the hardware changes power states. If the captured image does not appear proper, then the user has to restart the capture application.

3. Before running a capture application that uses this driver, the user should close any application (for e.g. Media Player) which uses the IBM MPEG-2 driver.
Also if a capture application is running, the user should not attempt to start an application which uses the IBM MPEG-2 driver, or any other application which uses the capture driver.

4. For preview mode, the user is given a choice of image dimensions based on the available space in video memory. For overlay mode, the user can choose from all sizes (40x30 to 640x480).

5. Following are known problems when using Vidcap32.exe as the capture application:
a) The user sizes the capture display window and sets capture format such that the scrollbars are visible. Then the user sets the scrollbar(s) to any position other than top on vertical scrollbar and left on horizontal, and then resizes the display window or changes the capture format such that scrollbars are no longer visible. The captured image now appears split either vertically or horizontally. This is because Vidcap32.exe continues to inform the driver about the scrollbar(s) settings though they are no longer visible. To fix this, the user has to resize display window or change capture format such that scrollbar(s) are visible again, and then reset the scrollbar(s).

b) The user selects a size for overlay which is greater than the maximum supported for preview. The driver displays a dialog box informing the user that the size selected should not be used for preview. If the user changes to preview mode with the same size, the image displayed could be distorted, and the cursor may be corrupted. To fix this, the user has to select a valid size using the Video Format dialog box. To restore the cursor, the user has to drag to the bottom of the screen. Vidcap32.exe assumes that preview & overlay are both supported for the same sizes. So if the application is in overlay mode, and the user selects preview mode without selecting a valid size, the driver is informed that it should preview to the same size. But since an image of this size cannot be captured in the frame buffer, the captured image looks distorted and the cursor image is also affected. This problem is also present when using Digital Video Producer.

6. Overlay mode is not supported for the following resolution, color depth & refresh rate combinations.
- 1024 X 768 X 256 colors, 75/87Hz
- 1024 X 768 X 64K colors, 87Hz
- 1280 X 1024 X 256 colors , 60/87Hz

To uninstall the video capture driver, do the following:
1. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double click on the "Multimedia" icon and click on the "Devices" tab.
3. From the list of drivers, select the '+' next to Media Control Devices in Multimedia devices.
"(MCI)IBM MPEG-2 Decoder" shows up under the tree.
Select this and click "Remove" button.
4. Select "Yes" to proceed. MPEG-2 driver will be removed.
