TP General - System hangs using IBM Ethernet II PCMCIA card using TCP/IP in Windows 95

SYMPTOM:
While using IBM PCMCIA Ethernet II card in Pentium machines running Windows 95, the machine will hang
when transferring files.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad running Windows 95 using TCP/IP with an IBM PCMCIA Ethernet II card.
RESOLUTION:
The Maximum Transfer Unit size for TCP/IP protocol is not large enough when using the Microsoft driver for IBM Ethernet II card that is supplied with Windows 95. It can be increased to 1480 by the revised NETTRANS.INF file listed below. Obtain 95IPFIX.ZIP which contains revised NETTRANS.INF file from the Mobiles Private Area of the BBS. Contact the IBM PC HelpCenter in your area for instructions on how to download this file.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Instructions for installing MSTCPIP fix to resolve client lock-ups in Pentium laptops using the IBM Ethernet Credit Card II adapter.
1. Copy the NETTRANS.INF file on this disk to the C: \Windows\INF directory (this assumes Windows 95 is installed on the C: drive in the Windows directory, if not, change this command accordingly. Choose YES to copy over the existing file.
2. Open Network Neighborhood Properties. Remove the TCP/IP Protocol. Before closing the Properties window, reinstall the TCP/IP protocol (Windows 95 will now read the new NETTRANS.INF). Don't forget to reset the IP address, subnet mask, etc.
3. Choose OK and reboot when prompted.
