Aptiva - My 2137-E85 Recovery CD (part number 20L2221) says its creating "Windows 95 system directories" when it should be Windows 98.
Applicable to: United States
Question:
Why does the Recovery CD for my 2137-E85 say it is "Making Windows 95 system directories" when it is supposed to be a Windows 98 preload? And why does it say that it is for a 2138 system?
Answer:
The software on the CD is the correct, Windows 98 preload for the E85 (build J46US06).
There is a batch file on the CD that automates the preload install procedure. This file is what displays the message "Making Windows 95 sytem directories".
This is an inaccurate message. The batch file's output message was not changed to reflect the new preload but the recovery still functions without error.
If you are reloading the E85 with a Recovery CD that has the part number 20L2221 printed on it, you will see the reference to Windows 95 mentioned above.
Let the recovery continue and on reboot, you will see "Starting Windows 98" and all of the files on the hard drive will be correct.
