If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Set up a raid array of the desired level and create a single logical drive consisting of the entire freespace. Initialize and Synchronize.

2. Boot to the SCO OpenServer BOOT diskette and follow normal procedures.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions
Follow the instructions below in sequence

4.1 Setting up the BIOS
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

1. Flash the RAID adapter to the appropriate level (listed in section 1.0).

2. Boot to the BIOS upgrade diskette (listed in section 1.0) and flash the system to revision 29A or later.

4.2 Running the Micro Channel Reference Disk
Note: If no Micro Channel cards are installed, there is no need to run the Reference Disk. However if a Micro Channel card is added, a 00165 configuration error will occur on boot and the system will go into the CMOS configuration menu:

1. CMOS will redisplay the 00165 error. Select to continue. Another error occurs, continue again. You are now at the main CMOS menu. Select Micro Channel Configuration. CMOS now prompts for the Reference Disk (place it in the floppy drive). The system will now reboot to the Reference Disk

2. Error 00165 reoccurs. Select Y to run Automatic configuration when prompted. If the Reference Disk does not have an Adapter Description File (ADF) for your hardware, it will prompt for the option disk. When Auto configuration is complete, the Reference disk menu can be used to inspect the settings. Verify your network cards are set to the proper speed if they are adjustable in the Reference Disk.

4.3 Setting up the array
1. Use configuration diskette for your specific controller (Micro Channel or PCI Fast/Wide, or ServeRaid).

2. Boot to the RAID configuration utility disk.

3. If using the PCI Fast/Wide diskette, Select #2, Start RAID Configuration Program.

4. Select Create/Delete Array.

5. If an array is currently defined (any ONL drives to the right):
a. Select Delete Disk Array
b. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to delete it.

6. Select Create Disk Array. Make all drives you desire in the array ONL with the exception of Hot Spares.

7. Select Define Logical Drive:
a. Select the RAID level desired.
b. Accept freespace.

8. Repeat the above step, with the exception of accepting the freespace.
Note: The array A should now have a logical drive (A0) consisting of the entire freespace.

9. Press Esc to return to the previous menu.

10. Select Initialize/Synchronize array.

11. Select Initialize Disk Array:
a. Highlight the A0 logical drive with the spacebar.
b. Start Initialization. Allow to complete.

12. Select Synchronize Disk Array:
a. Highlight the A0 logical drive with the spacebar.
b. Start Synchronization. Allow to complete.

13. You are now ready for NOS installation.

NOTE: A Raid Configuration Backup Diskette is recommended when array configuration is complete. Refer to the RAID Option Diskette menu to create one.

Warning: The IBM PCI F/W controller does not autosynchronize. Perform manual synchronization from the RAID Option Diskette on a weekly basis.

4.4 Installing the NOS
1. Place the SCO OpenServer Boot Disk in drive A and power on the server.

2. At the Boot: prompt, type the following:
for OS 5.00 - 5.0.2
restart ahslink=mdac (if using Micro Channel or pci f/w raid adapter)
restart ahslink=ipsraid (if using ServeRAID adapter)

for OS 5.0.4 - 5.0.5
<enter> (no bootstring necessary if using Micro Channel or pci f/w raid adapter)
restart link=ipsraid (if using ServeRAID adapter)

NOTE: if using the ServeRaid as your boot controller and the CD-ROM is NOT attached to the ServeRaid, you must supply the additional bootstring parameter:

Srom=<adapter driver>(bus#, adapter#, scsi-ID#, LUN#) e.g. Srom=alad(0,0,6,0)

Insert either the mdac or ipsraid when prompted. If prompted, type r to replace driver.

3. At the prompt, Press Enter to begin installation press Enter to continue.

4. Enter the correct values for your CD-ROM device (for example, SCSI ID) then highlight Accept above choices and press Enter to continue.

5. When prompted, insert the SCO OpenServer CD in the selected CD-ROM drive and press Enter to continue.

6. When prompted, press Enter twice to accept the default US English keyboard.

7. Enter the license number and license code provided by SCO and then continue.

8. Read licensing information and then press Enter to continue.

9. Accept default for Fresh Install. When prompted, select OK and press Enter.

10. Enter system and domain names valid for your network, and make any other desired system information changes, then highlight Accept above choices and press Enter to continue.

11. Enter system profile information then highlight Accept above choices and press Enter to continue.

12. Enter desired disk and software configuration or accept defaults, then continue.

13. Configure network adapter and other listed peripherals as appropriate. The mouse/pointing device should be set to Low resolution keyboard mouse when using the standard PS/2-port mouse. Highlight Accept above choices and press Enter to continue.

14. Enter a secure password for the system root account and continue.

15. When prompted, choose OK and press Enter to continue.
SCO installation will partition the hard disk and begin to copy files. This may take a while depending on the options selected previously.

Note: During installation, there may be two error/warning messages if using the ServeRaid controller. These messages may be ignored.

16. When the SCO file copy is complete, press Enter when the installation process prompts you. (It may prompt you twice.)

17. When the Power off or reboot prompt appears, remove the SCO OpenServer Boot Disk and then press a key to reboot the server.

18. After SCO starts, at the Boot: prompt press Enter.

19. At the type CONTROL-D prompt press Ctrl-D.

20. Enter date and time as needed.

21. SCO will boot to X and prompt for logon.
