IBM Cluster Pack - Clustering Solutions Using IBM Netfinity and IBM PC Servers

Overview
With IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack you can create two-node, shared-disk cluster solutions for IBM Netfinity and PC Servers running NetWare environments. In addition, StandbyServer(**) for OS/2 Warp, NetWare, and StandbyServer (version 1.2) for Windows NT are included. These products support two mirrored servers running in OS/2 Warp, NetWare, or Windows NT environments.

Developed by Vinca Corporation, IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack supports IBM Netfinity and PC Server configurations using paired ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapters across a common, shared-disk SCSI bus. These solutions combine high-function SCSI and scaleable storage options with a choice of IBM server nodes. IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack increases the availability of your business-critical applications running on NetWare with shared-disk access, automatic hardware failure detection, switch over, and improved recovery times for the fail-back function.

In addition to shared-disk clustering support, IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack also features Vinca's StandbyServer products for Windows NT, OS/2 Warp, and Novell NetWare. These StandbyServer products are currently in the PC Server High-Availability Solutions for OS/2, NetWare, and Windows NT, but are now conveniently packaged into single software product. Included with the IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack is an Ethernet interconnect cable for linking cluster nodes and for reporting system heartbeat and status information.

IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack is designed for easy installation. Select one application on the CD-ROM and complete the installation.

IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack

Description
IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack contains the software you need to control clustered, two-node servers with common shared-disk storage units running NetWare. Specific IBM Netfinity and PC Server configurations have been tested and are supported with IBM Netfinity Cluster Pack to provide automatic failover to the other node when a hardware problem is detected in the first node. In addition, Cluster Pack provides a means to invoke recovery after the failing node is repaired.

These two-node configurations provide high-availability, shared-disk cluster solutions using Netfinity and PC Servers set up as floor-standing towers or installed in rack cabinets. Shared-disk enclosures are attached to either two Netfinity 7000 servers, two PC Server 704 systems, two PC Server 325 systems, or two PC Server 330 systems. These configurations provide fault-tolerant cluster solutions using the ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter to support hot-swap RAID levels 1 and 5.

The tower shared-disk versions of these configurations can support up to 1.2 terabytes(*) of data storage, while the rack shared-disk versions can support in excess of one terabyte of data storage.

(*) When referring to hard drive capacity, MB stands for millionbytes and GB stands for one thousand million bytes. Terabyte stands for one trillion bytes. Total user-accessible capacity may vary depending on operating environments.

For information about these configurations and mirrored, high-availability solutions visit the IBM Personal Computing Solutions home page at: http://www.pc.ibm.com/new/cluster.html
