3995 model x63 for RS/6000 SCSI attachment
ITEM: RTA000071392
What is the file system supported by AIX/6000 for a SCSI attached
3995 Model x63 ?
ANSWER
AIX does not support building JFS filesystems on the 3995
device.
Space on the 3995 is not directly usable by the AIX operating
system. The 3995 has to be bundled with Business Partner
software that makes it usable for their applications.
A list of these applications and partners is contained in
the package 3995APPS on MKTTOOLS.
The 3995 provides bulk storage for applications that build
their own access method to it, such as Unitree access to
raw logical volumes. Raw logical volumes do not have the
2Gig size restriction for filesystems, but they require
application logic to specially handle the larger sizes.
It is possible one of these packages would allow the space
to be defined as a JFS filesystem to AIX. However, I really
don't know for sure, since we don't have or support these
software packages. You would need to contact the Business
Partners who designed the 3995 software for this type of
information.
NOTES:
o The Optical Storage Products Department of the Storage
Systems Division handles technical support of the 3995's
internal hardware.
o If you need further information on the 3995 internal
hardware, you may wish to send a note to TUCVM2(OPTICAL).
o We typically handle external connectivity of the supported
3995 models to the RISC System/6000 hardware.
