Hi, some questions on DOC1 from Group1:
1) Is DOC1 SAP certified ?
2) Is there a Started Task environment available for AIX that we can
sell ?
3) Do we have references that are using SAP and DOC1 together ?
4) Do we have any information available on the Raw Data Interface
from SAP ?
A:
R1) This appears to be a duplicate of a question asked earlier this
summer. Please review libraried item RTA000150894.
There seems to be a lot of confusion in the market place about SAP
certification.
Note that SAP does *not* certify third party transforms like the OTF
transform (sap2afp) in PSF/AIX or Infoprint Manager for AIX.
What SAP is certifying relative to print management is a vendor's
implementation of an Output Management System to interface with the
BC-XOM interface which became available in release 4 of SAP R/3. If you
visit http://www.sap.com/products/compsoft/certify and select Output
Management, you will see a list of the currently certified OMSes.
Within OMS certification, there are several levels of certification
that an OMS can obtain. So for example, Dazel is currently certified
for polling and not for asychronous callbacks. This polling function is
only slightly better than the SAP function provided in R/3 Release 3.
| Infoprint Manager V3.1 (5648-B34) was announced on Aug. 25, 1998 with
| SAP-certified OMS support. Infoprint Manager's OMS is certified for
asynchronous callback as well as the Command option which provides job
cancel, job query and device query commands to the SAP end users in
| addition to the print command. As of August 1998, that is a higher
| level of certification than Dazel has received.
For SAP R/3 Release 3, there is no Output Management certification.
PSF/AIX will not be enhanced to support OMS; that function is
available only in InfoPrint Manager V3.1 or later.
R2) I do not understand the second question about a Started Task
environment available for AIX. Please clarify. While I've heard of
Started Tasks in an MVS environment (STC), I've not heard that term
in relation to AIX.
R3) As you noted, DOC1 is a product from Group1. SAP R/3 is a product
from SAP AG. IBM would have no information on references relating to
third party products, so I would suggest you contact either SAP AG or
Group1 and ask them.
R4) You can obtain some information on the Raw Data Interface at the
SAP web site listed above; scroll down to SAPScript - Raw Data Interface
in the left frame.
Neither PSF/AIX nor InfoPrint Manager interface with the SAPScript
Raw Data Interface; rather, Infoprint Manager V3.1 or later interfaces
with the XOM Interface (External OMSes) using the SAPGOF (Generic Output Format
Exchange Format. See the www.printers.ibm.com website for additional
information.
If you need additional information on SAP interfaces, may I suggest that
you contact SAP AG directly. Of course, if the questions relate to
Infoprint Manager for AIX V3.1 and the Output Management System, we'll
be glad to assist.
If you need additional clarification, please reopen this item.
