PSF/6000: PostScript transform--2 queues with different output types?
ITEM: RTA000089922
Q:
I have several AIX queues served by the ps2afp daemon.
Can I define one queue with output image compressed format and
the other queue with uncompressed format? How can I do that?
A:
Here are some suggestions using function available both in PSF/6000 V1
and PSF for AIX Version 2. (In addition, the new Input Manager component
in PSF for AIX Version 2 adds both function and ways of submitting print
that are not covered in this response. If you are working with PSF for
AIX Version 2 and want information on using the new Input Manager,
please reopen this item.)
1) At job submission time, you can override the default image type
using the -a flag on the ps2afp command or the -o-a flag on the
enq command. See the Print Submission book for similar examples.
2) You can have multiple copies of a user configuration file based on
on the sample file, /usr/lpp/psf/ps2afp/ps2afp.cfg, and each copy
or version of this file can call for a different image type.
These customized configuration files can also be invoked on the
print command (see Example 4 on page 97 of S544-3878-01). Please
also see "Print Administration" for information on the hierarchy
of flags and commands for the PostScript transform (on page 193
in S544-3817-01) so that you know which specification takes
precedence.
3) You could also create two local AIX queues (as per the instructions
in "Print Administration" (on page 189 in S544-3817-01). While both
local queues would point to the same PSF/6000 queue, you should also
be able to specify on the BACKEND statement (step 5 in the
instructions) the additional parameter of "-aIO1_G4" or "-aIM1"
so that the backend statement looks like:
/usr/lpp/psf/bin/ainbe datatype=ps -aIM1
Or instead of specifying "-aIM1", you could specify a different
user configuration file, such as the custom.cfg in the "me"
subdirectory:
/usr/lpp/psf/bin/ainbe datatype=ps -C/me/custom.cfg
There are other more exotic ways of achieving your objective, such as
running two different copies of the PostScript transform daemon. This
procedure has been documented in a previous ASKQ/IQ/SETI item with
number RTA000037105 (or under the older numbering system, E9157). If
you want to pursue this avenue, but cannot access the item, please let
me know and I'll imbed it.
I hope that helps. Again, if you wish information on the Input Manager
component of PSF for AIX Version 2 and job scripts, please reopen.
Closing.
