Customer is using PSF/AIX and a 3116 (PCL mode) and read flash
regarding bin selection via FORMDEF. We tried using IBM-supplied
F1A10120 and verified that the trays are not linked on the printer,
but the job prints from tray 1 instead of tray 2 as specified in the
formdef. Shouldn't this work even though they're in PCL mode? Is
there something we should check on the printer? Can you run a test?
A:
For PCL and PPDS printers, you have to specifically enable the alternate
bins as described in Print Administration (S544-3817-03). After you
do that, it should work. If not please reopen.
In case you don't have the book, here's the "short version":
smit psfcfg
Show/Change Characteristics of a Printer
Bin Mapping Options (PPDS and PCL Printers Only)
(select printer name from list)
1 Lower
Change value to "yes" for "Is the bin mapping AVAILABLE?" field and
press ENTER. Then you must use psfctl -dtu to stop
and restart the printer for the change to take effect.
Note that you must also follow this procedure to enable duplexing for
each bin or tray.
I hope that helps. Closing.

| Infoprint Manager has the same requirement. You must modify the
| properties for the actual destination on the Forms panel of the
| AIX VSM GUI.
