Question:
  How can I change the symbol color of a node?

Answer: 

  The following can be used to change the status of a symbol that
  has the propagation method set to symbol.

  hostname (the second one) is the selection name of the object.

  $status is one of :

   Unknown
   Normal
   Marginal
   Critical
   User1
   User2
