     This program performs calculations for the Revised NIOSH Guide in
accordance with the published manual.  The accuracy of the results are dependent
on the accuracy of the data entered into the program.  The analysis and
recommendations presented are, by necessity, generic and may or may not be
appropriate to a specific circumstance.  Given the intent and purpose of their tool,
the developers are not responsible for the interpretation of the results or the
consequences of others interpreting the results.
				    
     




















			    PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

	  Easy to use.

	  Option to use inch-lb or cm-kg units.

	  Computes Recommended Weight Limits, Lifting Indexes and all Six  
	  Multipliers.

	  Estimates of percent capable male and female populations. 

	  Ability to change one or more task variables and see the effects on
	  RWL and LI.

	  Estimates of rest allowances required.  

	  Ability to save and retrieve task data and analysis.

	  Frequency independent, frequency dependent and composite analyses
	  for multiple tasks.

	  Origin and destination analysis.

	  Generic recommendations for improving tasks and jobs.

	  Checks data to make sure it is within the recommended range.

	  Help menus on program use and variable definitions.

	  Screen dumps and print options.

			      HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

	  IBM 80386 or better compatible computer.

	  5.25" or 3.5"  floppy disk drive.

	  At least 1 megabyte of RAM.

	  VGA color monitor.

	  High quality dot-matrix or laser printer.

	  Microsoft Windows 3.x.

	  Mouse.

			  INSTALLATION AND SETUP


1. You are provided with a floppy disk labelled "NIOSH DEMO."

2. Turn on your computer.  Go to Windows.  

***NOTE*** If you are currently in Windows application program please 
	   close it before installing NIOSH software.
	  
3. From Program Manager Menu, Select File.

4. From File Menu select Run.

5. Insert the "NIOSH DEMO" disk into a floppy drive (a or b drive).

6. In Command Line Box, type:
	  a:\Install                 or b:\Install  
   (if using a drive)                   (if using b drive)                         
   
   Click on OK or press Enter.   

***NOTE*** If you are installing from a hard drive follow the same procedure 
	   but instead a: or b: use an appropriate drive letter.
	  
   Now you are entering into the installation program.

7. When it asks where NIOSHDEM will be installed, confirm by     
   clicking on Yes.

   The program will be installed in C:\NIOSHDEM directory. Otherwise,
   installation will be aborted.   

8. When it asks if you want to create Windows group and Icon for
   NIOSHDEM, we suggest you click on Yes. Otherwise, NIOSHDEM
   icon will not appear in Program Manager.



			      GETTING STARTED

1. Return key is Tab Key.

2. This is a demonstration program so it has already preset variables
   that you cannot change.  The registered version lets you to change
   all input variables.

3. Click on Add Task button to load the preset job data.

   To view task data highlight one of the tasks (Product A, B or C).
  
   Calculate Task button computes and displays the six multipliers,      
      Recommended Weight Limit, Lifting Index, percent capable male
   and female populations, and required rest allowance, etc. for a
   given task.

	  Calculate Job computes and displays  analyses for the entire job.
	  Print Screen button prints screen contents, as is, on the
	  printer.

   Recommendations button displays the six multipliers in ascending
   order (from smallest to largest) and provides generic         
   recommendations on how to improve the task or the job.  

   To display the six multipliers in ascending order click on the     
   Recommendation button.     

   To display the generic recommendations first click on the     
   Recommendation button and then click on the button in front of the
   multiplier of interest. The demonstration program allows you to see
   the recommendations for only one multiplier.

8. Only those buttons that have lighted up (become active) can be
   used.

9. To START the program:
	  Double click on NIOSHDEM Icon on the Windows Applications
	  menu.

10.       To EXIT the program:
	  Click on Edit Job button to go to Job and Analyst window.
	  Click on File command located at the top of the screen on the left
	  side of the menu bar. 

	  Click on Exit.

			    SELECT UNITS WINDOW


1. Enter password DEMO. Press Tab key.
 
2. In the demo units are preset to English.

3. After selecting appropriate units, click on Continue button.
