Frequently-asked questions about Hitline:
-----------------------------------------

Question:
Starting Hitline brings a message that no CD-ROM drive is present, or that the CD cannot be accessed, although the CD-ROM drive is correctly connected and a CD is loaded.

Answer:
Check the following:
1. the CD-ROM driver must be correctly installed and MSCDEX (or similar) must be started. One or more CD-ROM-specific drivers must usually be loaded in CONFIG.SYS, MSCDEX normally in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
2. the Windows-driver for AUDIO-CDs must be installed. Check in Control-panel->Drivers if the driver "[MCI] CD-Audio" is listed. If not, you must install it.

Question:
You see the message "FILE LOCK FAILED" or some other mysterious error when starting Hitline or on loading a database. What could the problem be?

Answer:
Hitline uses a complex database-system to store the CD-data. It is possible under certain conditions (e.g. power-failure during database access) that the database is left in an inconsistent state. Hitline has an integrated repair feature and can normally correct such problems automatically.

Question:
Hitline reports that SHARE.EXE was not found. How can this be corrected?

Answer:
Because Hitline was designed for use in networked systems, it needs the program SHARE.EXE to regulate access to common files. This program is included with MS-DOS and is normally loaded in autoexec.bat. Check your autoexec.bat and load SHARE.EXE if necessary.
If you use Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT or Windows 95, you do not need to load SHARE. These operating-systems have networking built-in.

Question:
I loaded a CD with 12 tracks. When I change the CD for one with 14 tracks I cant access tracks 13 and 14. What could be wrong?

Answer:
This is a known problem with older CD-ROM drivers. Try to obtain a more recent driver or contact your hardware supplier.

Question:
Does Hitline run under Windows NT?

Answer:
Yes. Hitline is compatible with the "Windows On Windows"-Subsystem (WOW) under Windows NT.

Enjoy!
