1. INTRODUCTION

Power Saver for Windows 9x gives you better control over the
power usage of your computer display. With Power Saver, you can
quickly and easily put your display into a low power mode, and
let Power Saver put the display into even lower power modes as
your system sits idle. The touch of a key or a twitch of the
mouse will restore your system to its normal powered-on
condition, ready for use.

Power Saver requires a display adapter and monitor that conform
to the VESA DPMS hardware and software interface standards. Most
display adapters and computer displays that conform to the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency "Energy Star" program should be
compatible with Power Saver.

2. READ THIS!

Power Saver uses documented software interfaces of your
computer's existing display adapter (video BIOS) to control your
display's power usage. Power Saver does not directly manipulate
the display adapter hardware, nor does it use any undocumented or
reverse engineered techniques. Power Saver's author cannot be
held responsible or liable for any damages or data loss that may
occur when Power Saver uses your existing display adapter BIOS
routines to change display power usage levels.

3. DISCLAIMER

Power Saver is supplied as is. Jim Mathews, the author, disclaims
all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for
any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct
or consequential, which may result from the use of Power Saver.

4. LICENSE AND REGISTRATION

Power Saver for Windows 9x is not public domain software and it
is not free software. Power Saver is provided without cost
strictly for evaluation purposes. If you like Power Saver and
wish to use it after a 30 day evaluation period, you must
register your copy of the program and pay a one-time U.S. $ 10.00
per-copy registration fee. The payment of the registration fee
will license the use of one copy of the software on one computer
at one time.

You are encouraged to share Power Saver with friends and
colleagues, but only in its original PWRSAVE2.ZIP archive file
format, and without modifications or additions of any kind.

No remuneration of any kind may be charged by any individual or
organization distributing this software without the express
written consent of the author. This restriction does not apply
to organizations that distribute software (and/or "shareware")
collections for "nominal" fees provided buyers are clearly
informed they have not satisfied the registration requirement
by "purchasing" the collection.

Site licensing information is available upon request.

For your convenience, a registration form is provided in the
"REGISTER.TXT" file.

5. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Power Saver for Windows 9x Version 2 is distributed in a single
compressed archive file named "PWRSAVE2.ZIP". To install Power
Saver:

   1. If you haven't already done so, use your favorite ZIP utility
to extract the files within PWRSAVE2.ZIP to a temporary
      directory.

   2. Now run the INSTALL.EXE program in the directory where
PWRSAVE2.ZIP files were extracted. For example, if the files
were extracted to the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory, run
      C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\INSTALL.EXE.

   3. When prompted, chose a directory to hold the Power Saver
files. All Power Saver files with the exception of
"Power Saver Screen Saver.scr" will be copied to the
selected directory. "Power Saver Screen Saver.scr" will
be copied to your Windows system directory so it is
available to the Windows Display Control Panel (along
with all your other screen saver modules).

   4. Answer the remaining questions regarding a Startup menu
item, viewing the README.TXT file (this file), and
      starting Power Saver now.

   5. After installation is complete, you can delete the files
in the temporary directory. Make sure you've saved a copy of
      "PWRSAVE2.ZIP" for future use.

6. POWER SAVER REMOVAL

Power Saver can be easily removed from your system using the
Windows 95 Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" function. To
remove Power Saver:

   1. Open the Control Panel by clicking the Windows 9x "Start"
button and selecting the "Settings" and then the "Control
      Panel" menu items.

   2. Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.

   3. Locate and select the "Power Saver for Windows 9x (remove
only)" line in the list of programs that can be removed.

   4. Click the "Add/Remove..." button.
