*** IMPORTANT NOTICE!! ***

Because of a misunderstanding on my part of Gregg Hommel's
intentions, I announced (in the last revision) that Ghost Writer 1.0
would no longer be developed. This will not be the case.

As it turns out, Gregg will be continuing to develop Ghost in both
its 3.1 and 3.2 versions, and I will also be putting the finishing
touches on Ghost Writer 1.0, and (good Lord willing) will begin
development of GW 2.0 (for use under PCP/W 2 and Ghost 3.2) soon.

Ghost Writer 2.0 (if and when it comes out) will be a FREE registration
to those who pay to register Ghost Writer 1.0. There will be no upgrade
cost involved (you will have already forked over a lot of money for upgrades
by that time!). If you don't register GW 1.0, you will have to pay for
GW 2.0. I hope that has been made clear enough!

The archive "GW10F.ZIP" contains the following files:

GWRITER.WAX - Windows ASPECT [(c) 1992 Datastorm Technologies Inc.] executable
		script file.

GWINSTAL.WAX - Windows ASPECT Ghost Writer installation script

GWBETA.TXT - Instructions to beta testers. PLEASE READ!!!!!

GWRITER.HLP - Help file in Windows [(c) 1990-1994 Microsoft Corporation]
help format.

GWREG.WRI - Registration form in Windows "Write" [(c) 1990-1994 Microsoft
Corporation] format.

GWREG.TXT - Registration form in plain ASCII text format.

GW_HIST.TXT - Revision history outlining refinements, bug fixes, etc.

SOCSOF1.NIL - Icon file

README.TXT - This file.

PMT_ACT.WAX - "Prompt Action" Ghost BBS prompt editor - for registered
Ghost Writer users ONLY.

(PMT_ACT.WAX, the Ghost BBS prompt editing utility, is usable only by
registered Ghost Writer users. This utility runs separately from
Ghost Writer, and edits Ghost BBS prompts. To install it, copy the
PMT_ACT.WAX file to your ASPECT script subdirectory.)

************************************************
IMPORTANT INFORMATION NOT GIVEN IN HELP FILE: *
************************************************

My apologies for the general incompleteness of the help file,
and the specific lack of any content relating to the following
items:

To enable FILE_ID.DIZ descriptions to be used for DNL listings,
you need to properly configure a "command line" for the needed
archiving program for a particular file extension. When adding
a file description, and "FILE_ID.DIZ" usage is enabled, you will
be prompted for a command line the first time a particular file
extension is encountered. You should enter the command line as you
would for the archive program needed to decompress the particular
file, substituting "%f" for the name of the file being added to your
DNL listing, and "%z" for the filename, "FILE_ID.DIZ" (for example,
"PKUNZIP %f %d" for ZIP files, or "ARJ e %f %z" for ARJ files).
Please note that in order for these to work, you must either have
the compression utility in a directory specified in your PATH
statement, or have the path specified in the "command line" you
enter for that file extension. Once you specify the command line
for a particular extension, Ghost Writer will continue to use that
command line for each file added to the DNL that has that extension,
provided the "FILE_ID.DIZ" option is enabled. If you do not wish to
use any decompression utility (eg. for TXT files - or any other which
are not archives, or for which you do not expect to find FILE_ID.DIZ
descriptions) for a particular type of file, simply choose "No" when
asked if you wish to set up the file extension in question. The
command lines can be changed from the setup menu as well, by selecting
the "Command Lines" pushbutton. Then you will need to enter a file
extension, and move the mouse cursor to the command line entry area,
which will show the default command line (if one was previously
specified) and allow you to make changes. This can also be done
when entering command lines from the first scenario presented above
(i.e. when you are routinely adding a file to a DNL and are prompted
for a command line).

The "File Scan" routine now allows for removal of files listed in a
DNL, but which no longer present in the associated subdirectory. When GW
finds such an entry, it will ask you if you wish to remove it, before
doing so. IMPORTANT: If you want to use this feature, make sure that
you do not use the character "/" as your fill character for your ASCII
(plain text) DNL headers, because GW looks for that character in a
certain spot in order to determine on which lines there is a file name
in the DNL. Any random occurrence of that character in the specific spots
that it searches will cause PROBLEMS! So use a "|", "\" or a ">", instead
of a "/"!

WHEN ENTERING FILE DESCRIPTIONS FOR USE IN THE DNLs OR TEXT FOR
NWS FILES, PLEASE HIT THE "ENTER" KEY WHEN THE EDIT WINDOW BEGINS
TO SCROLL -- GW NEEDS A CARRIAGE RETURN AT LEAST EVERY 255 CHARACTERS,
AND HAVING THEM MORE OFTEN IS QUITE ACCEPTABLE. GW WILL REMOVE THE
CARRIAGE RETURNS WHEN IT CONVERTS YOUR TEXT TO PUT IT INTO THE DNL OR
NWS FILE, BUT COUNTS ON THEM BEING THERE.

INSTALLATION USING GWINSTAL.WAX:

 1. Extract the following files (or all files) from the ZIP archive to a
temporary directory or a floppy disk:	GWRITER.WAX, GWINSTAL.WAX,
 GWREG.TXT, GW_HIST.TXT, SOCSOF1.NIL, README.TXT, GWRITER.HLP.

 2. Run "GWINSTAL.WAX" from within ProComm+/Win.

 3. Make sure the "installing from" path is the directory you extracted
the files to in step one, and that "installing to" path is the directory
to which you want to copy the GWRITER.WAX executable file.

MANUAL INSTALLATION:

(If you are installing over a previous version, make sure to copy
the newer files over the old, or get rid of the old before copying
the new. But DON'T delete GW.INI!)

To install Ghost Writer, simply place the executable script file,
"GWriter.wax", in your default ProComm Plus for Windows ASPECT
script subdirectory, and place the files "GWRITER.HLP" and "SOCSOF1.NIL"
in your default ProComm Plus/Win directory (eg. "c:\prowin"). Once
GWRITER.HLP is in the proper subdirectory, it will be available by
pressing "F1" when Ghost Writer is running.

See your ProComm Plus for Windows user manual for information on how to
launch a ProComm Plus for Windows ASPECT script. Once you launch
Ghost Writer, it will invoke the Setup procedure, and once you save
your setup, any further necessary configuration will take place as you use
Ghost Writer. Ghost Writer is designed to also be launched from
within Ghost BBS (Copyright (c) 1992, 1993 Gregg Hommel - All Rights Reserved
Portions Copyright (c) 1992 Toby Simkin - All Rights Reserved
Portions Copyright (c) 1992 Datastorm Technologies, Inc. - All Rights Reserved
RingMonitor Portions Copyright (c) 1992 Bob Blow - All rights reserved),
and may be used in such manner as soon as the first version of Ghost BBS which
implements this is avalable.
