                              SNOOK 2.0
                              =========

This is the 32-bit version of the molecular dynamics engine used by the
version 1.0 of the Simulation Kit (SK). SNOOK 2.0 is an add-on for
the Simulation Kit, for the benefit of Windows 95 users.

The Simulation Kit is used for molecular dynamics simulations of
atomic collisions in solids. SNOOK 2.0 can be run as a standalone
program using the example input files provided. In conjunction with
the Simulation Kit, users can design their own simulation projects,
and analyse the output in order to extract spectral data, sputter
coefficients or other information.

NB. The Simulation Kit is available from Simtelnet mirror sites
(e.g. http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/pub/msdos/science/simkit10.zip).

The benefits of using SNOOK 2.0 over SNOOK 1.0 are:
(1) Improvement in calculation time (by about 35%);
(2) SNOOK 2.0 offers the option of depicting the collision cascade
    graphically while the simulation runs.

SNOOK 2.0 and its associated files are released by the author to the
public domain. The package may be copied and distributed without
restriction.

INSTALLATION

The files in the SNOOK 2.0 package are contained in the compressed
archive FILES.ZIP.

The recommended installation for those who plan to use the full
Simulation Kit is achieved using the batch file INSTALL.BAT which
comes with this package (and invokes PKUNZIP with appropriate
command-line options). If you only want to use SNOOK 2.0 as an
educational demonstration of atomic collisions, you can unzip FILES.ZIP
in any directory of your choice.

Files in the package:

README.TXT This file.

INSTALL.BAT Batch file for installing SNOOK2 over your existing version
of the Simulation Kit. Use of the default installation is optional.

FILES.ZIP Archive containing the following:

The following files are placed in the \SK\BIN subdirectory by
the default installation, INSTALL.BAT:

SNOOK2.EXE Molecular dynamics simulation engine
SNOOK2.HLP Help file for SNOOK2.EXE

The following example files are placed in the \SK\EXAMPLES subdirectory
by the default installation, INSTALL.BAT:

AXIAL.RUN, AXIAL.IMP, AXIAL.TRG, AXIAL.PRJ, AXIAL.MDL, AXIAL.DAT
PLANAR.TRG, PLANAR.PRJ, PLANAR.RUN, PLANAR.MDL, PLANAR.IMP
ICISS1.PRJ, ICISS1.TRG, ICISS1.RUN, ICISS1.MDL, ICISS1.IMP
ICISS2.PRJ, ICISS2.RUN, ICISS2.MDL, ICISS2.IMP, ICISS2.TRG

See the on-line Help for descriptions of the example files.
