LOCKtite 2.6

New features in LOCKtite 2.6
- removes bug that causes startup failure on some versions of 2.4 and 2.5

WARNING
LOCKtite 2.6 uses a different method of protection than
Version 2.3 and earlier. If you have been using these versions, you
must use them to restore ALL groups that have been locked out of the
Program Manager. Only then should you install Version 2.5.

LOCKtite is a utility designed to help manage Windows(tm) security.
It works with the Program Manager to allow you to easily restrict the
available options on the menu, to add or remove program groups from
display, and to password protect the running of any application. Is is
particularly useful in a home, small business, or educational setting where
more than one user has access to a computer. LOCKtite can also make network
security easier. This version of LOCKtite works only with the standard
Windows program manager shell. It will not work with other desktops, such
as the Norton Desktop.

In general, Windows and security, particularly on a network, are
contradictory terms, since Windows allows the user a great deal of
freedom to set up their system in many different ways. LOCKtite
allows easy restriction of many things that you might not want casual
users to change. At the same time, it makes it easy for the supervisor
to restore things to a level where changes can be made.

In addition to LOCKtite, two small utility programs to help manage
security on a network, CTRLBRK and REBOOT, are also included. Instructions
on how to use LOCKtite are completely contained in the help file.

INSTALLATION

WARNING! LOCKtite 2.6 uses a different method of protection
than Version 2.3 and earlier. If you have been using these versions,
you must use them to restore ALL groups that have been locked out of
the Program Manager. Only then should you install Version 2.5.

Copy all the files provided with LOCKtite into one directory
(either on a diskette, or a subdirectory of your hard drive). Then from
the Program Manager, run A:\LOCKTT24.EXE (assuming you are installing from
a diskette--substitute the correct path for A:\ if you are not).
Installation is automatic, and will create a Program Manager group for
LOCKtite.

During installation a backup copy of PROGMAN.EXE and PROGMAN.INI
is created in the same directory as you use to install LOCKtite. Should
something go wrong during installation, and the original copies of these
files become corrupt, you can copy them back into your Windows directory.

LOCKtite is shareware. Its cost is $30 for a single copy, or a
site licence. To register, please print out and then complete the
registration form in the help file. You will receive a serial number
that will remove the (annoying) nag screens from LOCKtite. 30
days after installation, LOCKtite will become disabled unless it is
registered. You will still be able to use it to restore your program
manager to its default settings; however, you will not be able to make
any further changes.
