=============
This is version 1.8a of the SGML TagWizard for Word 6.

To install the TagWizard, type a:/setup in the run dialog box from
the filemanager.

To start the wizard, select the Autosgml.wiz wizard when starting a
New Word document. Good luck!

The following are the list of known bugs/deficiencies/new
features  in the product.

Setup
=====

If you incorrectly specify your Winword/template directory, one will be
created which will contain the necessary files, but the wizard will not
be visible from word. Simply copy the files to the correct directory.

If you do not chose the default setup options, for the DTD directory (C:\DTD)
you will need to change the entry in SGMLWRKS.INI labelled MapFile to point
to the ENTITY.MAP file in the DTD directory.

SGMLWRKS.INI is to be found in your windows directory.

Wizard
======

Tags exceeding 255 characters will cause unpredictable results.

Content (between tags) > 32K will cause unpredictable results.

Some SGML features (marked sections) are not fully supported and
will be removed from the document when it is imported.

Word
====

You may change the ROOT entry in the .ini file of the DTD you are
using (for example HTML.INI) to point to the first element you use
in the section of the document you are editing, for example H1. This
will allow you to work on parts of the overall document as separate
files. You may also do this by using the Set Start Element in the
SGML menu. The root (start) element is stored as a document variable
and thus will be automatically applied when the document is reopened.

Formatting is achieved through styles in version 1.5. After many successive
formatting operations Word will run out of memory and Windows has to be
restarted.

New features
============

Version 1.8 contains various bug fixes and cosmetic improvements.
Consult the update sheet with the manual for details.
To get correct substitution of entities that contain characters
in non-normal fonts (e.g. symbol) you need to define a style in
the .dot file that uses this font.

1) Styles in a template file with filename equal to the DTD filename,
filetype equal to .DOT, will be automatically loaded when the DTD is
loaded. The styles in the .DOT file may be associated to elements in
the DTD by using the Options command in the SGML menu. This defines
variables in the .ini file (see html.ini for an example).
You should create a .dot file for every DTD you are using with the
TagWizard.

The mechanism from releases prior to 1.3 continues to work, but is
discouraged.

2) Use the Format text button to type text in a certain style.

3) Tags are now no longer stored in fields. This means you can edit
them in the text. Use the Format tag button to obtain the correct
style, and to type in the tags by hand.

4) The Edit Tag button is no longer required.

5) Tags are always coloured. No gain in speed is obtained by removing
colour.

6) The parsing technique has changed. Formatting objects that are
automatically generated by Word such as bullets, points of numbered
lists and table boundaries are ignored in the parsing process.
Speed of parsing is significantly improved.

7) Public entities in the DTD are
read by the parser if the corresponding entity definition files are
available. The file "c:\dtd\entity.map" contains the definitions for the
ISO 8879 public entity sets. They are also shipped with the product.
Character references are replaced by their definitions on import;
when a symbol that is defined in one of these sets is used in a Word
document it is replaced by the corresponding entity reference on export.
Remember to add a style to your document template (.dot) that uses
a character from the symbolset that you use in your document.

8) Resolution of entity references to characters on import and export
may be turned on and off by using the Options command in the SGML menu.
This setsthe following variables in the .ini file:

[Entity]
ResolveCharOnImport=Yes
ResolveCharOnExport=Yes
AddCharOnExport=Yes

English, French, Swedish, Dutch, German and Spanish language versions of
Word are supported. Support for other languages is added upon request.

9) Parsing with tags hidden is not possible. Editing with tags hidden
is possible. This allows non Tag Wizard users
to read Word files saved from within the Tag Wizard. Remember to hide the
tags before saving and to save WITHOUT the autosgml.wiz template.

If an error is found in a DTD while this is being loaded, a window will be
opened with the errors listed at the end of the DTD and the line containing
the error highlighted. The line number and offset of the error are incorrect
if the error occurs in an external entity embedded by the DTD.

New features in 1.8a
===============

1. Some bugs in the resolution of special characters on import/export have
been fixed.
2. It is now possible to import GIF images, for HTML documents. Place the
cursor where the GIF image should go and choose the command SGML,
Insert GIF image. Note that the HREF (for anchors) or SRC (for inline
images) attributes have to be changed to correspond to the valid path of the
images on the server.

Parsing
=======
For reasons of speed, the buttons <TAG>, </ETAG>, Format Text and Parse
only parse the tags. Element content is parsed when the document
is exported.

GIF conversion
==============

The conversion of embedded images to GIF only works if your computer has a
16 bit graphics card. If you have a 24 bit graphics card, you should run it
in 256 color mode.

Bugs
====

Record ends and blank lines before tags may cause problems when
inserting tags in between tags. Place the insert point after the
'>' of the preceding tag to avoid getting the message 'Text not
allowed at this point'.

During final testing some small bugs may have crept into the system.
Rest assured that these will be fixed and that you will
receive ALL interim releases free of charge.
