PLEASE NOTE
#############

Until you understand how the program works it is recommended that you keep your tests as simple as possible. ISP and browser caching may cause errors that seemingly do not seem to correct even though you may doing everything right. Once an error has been established your browser may keep reproducing the error from its cache. You will have to set your preferences to update every time or restart your browser to clear it. Another known problem is cached and proxy servers. Although they may save your host a lot in bandwidth they are the artists' nightmare. If you think that you are having cache problems try making a new test using a different image.

TO INSTALL - PC
#################

The file downloaded is a self-extracting zip file that will open automatically on click.

Unzip the downloaded file into a temporary folder. Open this folder and click on the SETUP.EXE file and follow the instructions until complete. The installation will automatically create a new folder on your C drive (optional) where it can be easily located. All the files from this install will be found in C:\Artistscope\Pro.

ENCRYPTION
############

Pro version uses an encryption specially written for early Java enabling support for all browsers from Netscape v3 and upwards for both PC and Mac computer users.

The most important area that image encryption protects is the downloading of the image by direct means after locating its path. Encrypted images are safe because the image files on the server cannot be viewed away from the user's web site. Nor can they be used from the Temporary Internet Folder or cache.

IMAGE SETTINGS
################

In the CUSTOMIZE window you can select for which domain.

APPLET STYLES
###############

SWAP IMAGE - TEXT

The text messages are of a fixed font and will only appear as a paragraph. The text will automatically wrap inside the image area and be centred. The limit of how much text will fit depends on the image area. If you try to put too much into a small image area the message will be cropped. The text message is an option for a quich message. If you need more control over the look it may be better to swap a prepered image containing your own fonts and layout.

SWAP IMAGES

The first image can be scaled to any size. For example you can save on download times by using the same image at different sizes throughout your site. The applet will scale these to any size. Likewise, the second image used will be scaled to the same size and care should be taken not to use an image that is smaller than the size intended - may be badly distorted, especially where small text is used.

MANY IMAGES ON THE SAME PAGE
##############################

There is no limit to how many or how large the images can be displayed on the same page. But with any great number of images there is always the download time to consider. If it is too slow then there is a risk of the surfer getting impatient and moving on.

Only one copy of artistscope.class needs to be in each folder. It will serve all the images and options even if using different applet styles.

DOWNLOAD TIMES
################

Secure Image will only increase your download time by 14 Kb and this only happens on the first call. On subsequent calls the java file is used from cache. The progress bar is displyed to entertain the visitor while the image downloads. Unlike a normal image that will show partially as it downloads when "interlaced" the applet needs to completely download the image before showing. It does not take any longer and subsequent calls or revisits are served from cache as per usual.

EDITING PAGES
###############

The program creates the viewing applet for the image and adds it to a web page. The new page can be used as template to copy the image applet from for pasting onto existing pages with prepared copy. Or it can be used as the start page to build upon by adding extra images and text, etc. It is recommended to do this work in the same folder as all the new components.

UPLOADING
############

If you saved to the project folder simply upload the whole folder intact without any editing. Never upload image or Java files as ASCII. They are binary files and if you need to select an option before uploading - use Auto or Binary.

REDISTRIBUTION
##############

Secure Image Pro may NOT be redistributed in any form without the prior written permission of Artistscope. If used for demonstration purposes and any use for displays on the Internet beyond evaluation, the product must be registered.

SUPPORT
#######

Full support by email is freely available until Secure Image is functional on your website. The latest trouble shooting and user information is online at our web site at http://www.artistscope.com or email us at support@artistscope.net

UNINSTALL
#########

To remove the Artistscope and associated files - simply DELETE the Artistscope folder.

TROUBLESHOOTING
###############

Please do not hesitate to report any difficulties so that we may continue improving the product. Some servers, thankfully not many, impose serious restrictions of the use of some file types for security reasons. If you think that you are blessed with one of these, let us know so that we can supply a fix or provide you with more suitable hosting.
