PROGRAM NAME: Plexel
--------------------

VERSION: 1.0 DATE: 15 Aug 1999
-------------------------------

PURPOSE:
--------

Javascript website editor also using Java to interface to
OS applications like Paint Shop Pro without leaving the browser.
New pages are created by word category rather like a directory,
and referenced in an uploadable dictionary.

Creates a 'magazine' type website with three columns, header and
footer. Titled and framed image structures can be simply incorporated
and linked to other pages or enlarged images. Table structures
of almost any format can be inserted easily.

FEATURES:
---------

Page structures are editable by selection or often by just clicking
a link in the structure.

New pages automatically linked to existing ones. Can use for non-uploaded
personal records too, like a filing cabinet. Can insert thesaurus type
page summaries using OS application Wordnet. Page summaries pasted to
all relevant linked pages.

Copy an online image location to clipboard and paste it straight into
say Column 2 of one of your pages. Adjust column and header colors and
borders.

Relative operation, i.e. almost every feature operates on the currently
displaying browser page.

Run Windows Explorer from the browser and open in current display folder.

Page deletion automatically deletes all links to page and dictionary link.

Edit title and Meta Tags form. Bar Robots button. Interface to HTML
validator.

New page template or clickbord, can be pasted to all existing pages
without them losing any content. Individual Page and folder protection.

Special forms to process online word popularity searches. This is
so that your website can have content reflecting what people are
looking for.

Uploads changed files. Inserts automatic 'Clickboard' on new pages.
Works across folders by using relative links.

Javascript routines can be modified and new ones added to suit.
Javascript is searchable by keyword and function name.

Plexel applet compiles and reloads quickly within browser by Java
interface to Java Development Kit.

Includes the experimental Plexos neural-programming system in javascript.

Other features not mentioned here.

Makes it easy to set up an indexed directory type website framework which
can be added to later. Performs global page edits.
Help system incomplete at present.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
--------------------

This is the first release and because of the difficulty in
getting Javascript to load and save files to local hard drive,
this version only works fully with Navigator v4, and best with
versions later than 4.06 since these also allow
system clipboard access, a very useful feature.

It appears we may have to purchase a very expensive digital
certificate to get Plexel working properly with IE. IE partly
works with a test certificate but this is not safe. We have not
had time to pursue all this further yet.

Only tested so far on Win 9X. Current version may operate on
other platforms. Future versions will be cross platform,
including Mac and Linux.

INSTALLATION:
-------------

master10.exe is a self extracting file which also allows the
option of settting the homepage of any default pre-installed
Netscape Navigator on your computer. Plexel will then operate
when you start the browser.

Just double click the master10.exe file and the option box
should appear. Files are set to unzip to C:/Master. It is not
recommended to alter this. Allowing sysHome.bat to run will
set the Navigator homepage so that Plexel loads when the
browser starts.

You have the option to run sysHome.bat or not. If you don't
then after unzipping you should set the browser homepage
manually to:-

file:///C:/Master/www/plexos.com/homeM.htm

then when you start your browser, Plexel will start.

Alternatively, you can set the browser homepage to:

file:///C:/Master/index.html

and click the yellow 'Start Plexel' button everytime you want to
start it.

If you don't want to change your existing homepage then to run
Plexel you will have to open one of the above files in the browser,
by another method.

TO CREATE YOUR OWN WEBSITE:
---------------------------

To start you off we have arranged a further download. First start
Plexel, then go to the 'Master' page and click 'Download Control'
When done click the 'Unzip' located in the same box. This will
allow you to unzip a personal site builder area to C:/Control.

Click 'Control' from almost any clickboard and you will be in your
personal Control area, as distinct from the 'Master' area which runs
Plexel.

From 'Control' click 'File Transfer' and 'FTP_Login' then set your
server details.

To start making webpages click 'Websites' from the Control clickboard,
then 'Public'. More instructions are there. Use the Plexel toolbar 'New'
button to make new pages.

Providing you are logged in and have set your FTP_Login page correctly,
you should be able to upload by clicking the 'Paste' button in the Plexel
toolbar, selecting 'Upload changed files in folder' and clicking 'OK'.
