                         WebReaper Offline Browser
                         =========================

What is WebReaper?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's an offline browser - a tool for grabbing websites into your internet cache
so that you can browse offline at a later date. Basically, you put in a starting
URL, and hit 'Go'. The program will then download in the page at that URL. It
will then extract a list of 'child' links (links within that page) and download
them. Sub-links from those objects will then be downloaded, and so on. Once the
files have been downloaded they will have been saved in the Windows Internet
Cache, and can be viewed 'Offline' later using Internet Explorer (v4 or higher).
Alternatively, the entire website can be saved to a directory on the local harddisk
with the links adjusted so it can be browsed directly.
The download is fully configurable - limits can be set so that links of a certain
size will or won't be downloaded, and the total download time can be set. A list
of preferred file extensions can be specified, so that only objects of those
types are downloaded. The maximum 'crawl depth' can be set and a limit can also
be imposed on how many servers 'away' from the starting server the crawler is
allowed to go. WebReaper also supports website and proxy (firewall) authentication.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The software runs on either Windows 95, 98 or NT 4. You must also have Internet
Explorer v4 or higer installed. Simply run the webreaper.exe installation program
and follow the on-screen instructions to install WebReaper. The program has an
uninstall option so can be removed simply and quickly.

How Much Does It Cost?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WebReaper is FREEWARE, i.e., completely free. There are no annoying whinge-
boxes, and no requests for money, registration or anything like that. Use it,
copy it, give it to your friends. The only thing I will ask (there's always
something) is that if you find any bugs or think of any features or
improvements that would make WebReaper better, check the website first
(http://www.otway.com/webreaper) or mail me (see below) and
let me know.
