                         A Windows 3.1 Desktop Utility

What is it?

AppMan is a Windows 3.1 program that allows you to place application launch
buttons on the desktop and to group button inside of a window on the desktop.
Buttons can also be linked to a group so that the linked group is open when
the button is activated.

You can also drag and drop between groups and the desktop.

Installation, A Quick and Dirty Guide.

I had originally planned to create a nice, clean installation program to
use with AppMan and my other applications but as usual, the real world
interrupted and I haven't had time to write it yet. As a result you'll
have to go through a few (hopefully) painless steps to get AppMan installed.

1. Create a directory for AppMan. For example:
     c:\mkdir appman

2. Copy appman2.exe and appman.hlp to this directory.

3. Create a directory called "Groups" under this directory. Text files
used to describe AppMan's configuration will be stored here. For example:
     c:\appman\mkdir groups

4. Copy the appdesk.dll file to your windows system directory.

5. Copy the ctl3d.dll file to your windows system directory . This really
should be done only if the version included with AppMan is more recent
than the one that is in the system directory already, but without an
installation this is difficult to check. The file included with AppMan is
dated October 1993. If you're not sure and are leery about copying the
file, check Microsoft's ftp site, ftp.microsoft.com, and get the most
recent version.

That's it!

To bring up the main menu, click the right mouse button anywhere on the
desktop.
