                         Installing Application Pad
                         ==========================

First time installing AppPad
----------------------------
If you are installing AppPad onto a system that contains no previous copy of
AppPad, do the following:

Step 1
------
Make sure that Windows Program Manager is the current 'shell'. If it is not
currently the shell, you can edit the SYSTEM.INI file in your Windows
directory by replace the line that starts with:
                  shell=
with:
                  shell=program.exe

Step 2
------
Make sure that you close all other programs that are not part of the standard
Windows apps. This is to ensure that no program is currently using the file
BWCC.DLL.

Step 3
------
In windows, run the AppPad setup program APSETUP.EXE. Select Install AppPad
to begin installing AppPad.

Step 4
------
If you have made AppPad as the shell, you have to restart Windows.

Installing over an existing copy of AppPad
------------------------------------------
If you have an existing copy of AppPad installed in your harddisk, it is
recommended that you delete those old AppPad files. You might want to make
a backup before you do this. The AppPad files are:

In the APPPAD directory:
APPPAD.EXE
APSETUP.EXE
APPPAD.HLP
APPPAD4.INI
ORDER.FRM
NEW.TXT
README.1ST
INSTALL.TXT

In the WINDOWS directory:
APDLL.DLL
BLANKSCR.DLL

In the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory:
BWCC.DLL

Now, perform steps 1 through 4 above.

Other notes:
------------
This version of AppPad is compiled using the Borland C/C++ v4.0 compiler.
Older AppPad versions are compiled with Borland C/C++ v3.1. The install
program will copy the files BWCC.DLL and BC40RTL.DLL into the WINDOWS/SYSTEM
directory. These files are needed by Borland C/C++ v4.0-compiled programs.
