WELCOME

RptView for Windows is a report viewer and report information
extract system. RptView allow you to view, print, and extract
information from reports generated from other systems and stored
as ASCII files on your PC or network drives. Mainframe
generated reports (IBM, UNIX) can be downloaded and processed. Reports
generated from PC-based tools (such as dBase, Paradox) can also be
printed to ASCII file and then accessed by RptView.

RptView has the unique ability to set a page heading and lock it at
the top of the viewing area. With RptView, you can scroll up and
down in a report page and still be able to see the title and column
headings. Report scrolling is fast because RptView builds it's own
index of pages. Reports over 6,000 pages long have been accessed.

RptView can Parse and Copy selected information for pasting into
individual columns and rows of spreadsheet and database applications.
This functionality it similiar to the commerical product Monarch.

RptView is a SHAREWARE program. The shareware version can be freely
distributed.

DOCUMENTATION
RptView comes with a standard Window's Help file and a user's
manual. The user's manual is in Write format and is found
in the file RVMANUAL.WRI

GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

You may want to install RptView on a server that serves many
workstations or install directly to individual workstations. It
has been my experience that most canned installation procedures
usually do not install correctly to a central server. For that
reason I have made the installation process manual. The process
for either environment is fairly straight forward.

The original installation file that you received may be in either
the form of RVxxxxxx.EXE or RVxxxxxx.ZIP. The EXE version is a
self-extracting zip file. The ZIP version requires that you use
PKUNZIP version 1.1 or newer. Create a directory on any drive,
copy the installation file to the directory and unzip the file.

FILES

There are two sets of files that you need to deal with in the
installation process, runtime libraries and application libraries.
Each of these will be dealt with under the categories of Server,
Workstation and Mixed Installations.

SERVER INSTALLATION

The best environment is to place all libraries, runtime and
executable, in one directory on each server. I would suggest that
you call this directory RLZAPPS. This way the application
program will be able to find all required runtime and DLL
libraries when executed and would not require you to install the
runtime libraries on each workstation. RptView was written in
CA-REALIZER for Windows. If later you install additional REALIZER
apps, I would suggest that you locate the executables all in one
common directory. This way you will need to maintain only one set
of runtime libraries and DLLs. REALIZER WILL NOT find runtime
files placed in your server's "WINDOWS" or "SYSTEMS" directories.

WORKSTATION INSTALLATION

If you wish to install the full set of RptView files to each PC or
Workstation you may use one of two methods.

One Directory
You can install on a PC the same way you would install on a server
as described above.

Separate Runtime and Application Directories
	1. Into the "Windows" directory copy the following files:
			OBJ3D.DLL
			CABLE.DLL

	2. Create a directory under your PC / Workstation "Windows"
   	directory named
			RLZRUN20.

	3. Copy into the RLZRUN20 directory the following file:
			RLZRUN20.RTS

	4. Create a directory in any location named:
RPTVIEW (or whatever name you would choose.)

	5. Copy all remaining files into this directory.

MIXED INSTALLATION

If you like, you can install the runtime libraries and DLLs on
each PC / Workstation as described in Separate Runtime
Application Directories above and install the application files
on your server under any directory name of your choosing.

PROGRAM MANAGER GROUP AND ICON

You will need to manually create a Program Item (Icon) in
either an existing Program Manager Group or one you create.
Please refer to your Windows manual for creating Progam Groups and
Program Items.

FIRST RUN OF RPTVIEW.EXE

The first time the RPTVIEW.EXE is executed an INI file will be
created in the directory that contains the RptView executable
(RPTVIEW.EXE). Setting descriptions can be found in the RptView help
file (RPTVIEW.HLP).

TRUETYPE FONT
RptView includes a font called RPTVW. The RPTVW.TTF is a TrueType,
scalable-fixed font. When RptView is first started the default
font is Courier New, which is the font supplied with Windows.

To install RPTVW.TTF go to Control Panel, Fonts and follow the
steps for installing a new font.

Edit the RPTVIEW.INI and change the entry as follows

ViewFont=RptVw
PrntFont=RptVw

The existing entry can be commented out as follows;

;ViewFont=Courier New

TRIALING RptView

Several files are included for you to get an initial feel for
RptView. Please review the help file for instructions on how to use
RptView.

If your copy is unregistered, a banner window will always be
presented each time you start RptView. In addition, the main window
title will contain the word UNREGISTERED. Both of these will go
away if you decide to register and license RptView.

Thank you for considering RptView.
