INTRODUCTION:

I run an adults-only BBS, like many of you, and even though it is plainly
spelled out in my registration files, I am still bombarded by callers from
kids. I like kids, okay, but I just don't want them on my system.

Carder is a way to bounce them right off without having to listen to the
inevitable pleading and begging, and promises that they're different from
every other kid that calls asking you for "elite" access, whatever that is.

In a nutshell, when run from LOGIN1.BAT, Carder checks their age, and if it
is under what you've specified in the cfg file, they're scrolled a text file
screen of your design, and then unceremoniously dumped! If they're a new user,
they fill out the newuser ques, then they're dumped. It's still up to you to
delete them from the user database. I tried to figure a way to avoid even
that, but there just wasn't a way to get their age until they'd been through
the ques. <g>...

If the caller is over the minumum age you've specified, he will not know
he's been checked, except for a very slight delay while the program runs.
He is shown nothing.

Carder keeps you informed about what it's been doing by leaving you nice
little explanatory messages in your activity log. You will know by checking
the activity log who's been let in, and who's been dumped.

INSTALLATION:

Create a directory for Carder, and unzip all the files in this archive into
it. You must then edit the following file:

CARDER.CFG

CARDER.CFG contains six lines:

The full path to your USERINFO.DAT
	The name of your BBS
	The Sysop's first name
	The Sysop's last name
The minimum age to let in
The text file you want to show "dumped" callers

HOW TO RUN CARDER:

I have had good success running Carder in each login1.run file. This lets the
underaged user see very little of my system. My login1.run file looks
like this:

cd\carder
carder carder.cfg

That's about all there is to it!

ADVANTAGES OF REGISTRATION:

The unregistered version you have here will only run for about 60 days.
It will leave you little notes in the activity log when it has expired
telling you that this is the problem, and that no age screening was done.

In fact, if there is an error of any kind, you're notified via the
activity log.

If the demo key is already expired, you may obtain a fresh one by calling
my board (the number is at the top of this document), and downloading a
fresh demo key from my Demo-Key door, which is "K" from the main menu. The
key you download is created for you on the spot, and is also good for 60
days from the date you get it.

After a reasonable evaluation time, you must either register it, or
delete it from use on your system.

Registration is $25.00.

You can either register be filling out the form below and mailing it to my
P.O.Box, or you may charge your registration with any major credit card
by entering the charge door on my system.

When you complete the registration form, I will pre-register you on my
BBS, and make your registered key available for you to download when
it's ready. Future updates will also be made available for you to download
as they are released. It'll be up to you to call in from time to time
to check for updates.

WARRANTY:

None. I don't guarantee anything about this software. It may not even
run. It is running on several systems beautifully, including my own,
but I don't guarantee that it will on yours. I won't even guarantee
that it won't trash all your datafiles, and render your hard drive
unusable for the next three generations. All I can tell you is that
it hasn't hurt mine. In other words, you are using this software entirely
at your own risk. There are no warranties expressed or implied.

HISTORY:

Version 1.0 was released on December 27, 1993, and is the first public
release.
