							Why Fast Fone 1.0?

I've always wanted a quick autodialer where I could call someone with the
push of one button. I've seen a lot of good ones, but something was always
lacking. Either they were part of some larger application program , they
didn't support a mouse or they had a million different keys to remember. I
have strived to make Fast Fone easy to use with mouse support, user config-
urable with colors and modem options and QUICK!

							Fast Fone 1.0 is

user-supported software. I ask that if you enjoy using the program and it
benefits you that you would send a registration fee of $15.00.
All users who register Fast Fone 1.0 receive the registered version
of Fast Fone with shareware screens removed and extra features, plus these
utilities:
	1. Swap Port: Allows you to temporarily swap your LPT ports and re-
direct commands to LPT2 and LPT3 instead of the default LPT1
	2. Page Breaker: When used on an ASCII text file will automatically
break pages and place page numbers at the top of each page
	3. Mortgage Finder: Find and compare mortgages and print amortization
schedules quickly and easily, with mouse support and easy menu system
You may print registration form by pressing ALT-F while in the program.

								The Directory

The Fast Fone dialing directory is a file called "FASTFONE.DIR" it can be
created with an ASCII file made by any text editor or word processor, as long
as the file is saved as a text only file. You do not have to create this
directory as one is provided with Fast Fone and editing features are provided
within the Fast Fone environment. A different directory can be loaded by
using the command line. For example, typing "FASTFONE MYFONES.TXT" would load
a directory called "MYPHONES.TXT". Be forewarned if you make any changes to
this directory it will be saved as "FASTFONE.DIR". Fast Fone works by search-
ing the current line of text for a phone number. It then sends these numbers
to your modem using its dial feature. It is important not to use numbers any
where on these lines except for the phone number. Fast Fone will only dial
numbers 0-9. The registered version has a feature to ignore a user configur-
able number of characters as well as dial '*', '#' and ','. If you like to
disable call waiting before making a call you may want to put a prefix in by
running the configuration program and inserting the characters *70. This
prefix works for Maryland, but I am not sure about other states.

							 Configuring Fast Fone

Fast Fone may be configured for your system by pressing the [F7] key while
in Fast Fone or by typing in "FFCONFIG" at the DOS prompt. If you have a color
system you may select colors and attributes for a range of things. The select-
ions under "Modem" are the most important to Fast Fone. "Comport" tells Fast
Fone where your modem is. If you do not know, trial and error may be the only
way to find out. A call to the computer store that sold you the system may
be another way. A typical system will have a mouse at comport 1 and the modem
at comport2, however a friend's new system has the modem at comport4, so this
will not hold true for all systems.
"Dial type" is the phone service you have. You may select Tone for touch
tone or Pulse for those without touch tone service.
"Baud" tells Fast Fone what speed of modem you have. Select the speed of
your modem.
"Prefix" gives you an opportunity to disable call waiting or put in a special
number such as 9 to get an outside line or *70 to disable call waiting.
"Initialization string" tell fast fone how to initially setup your modem.
For most modems the default string will work just fine. If your modem requires
a special string read your manual for suggestions and try a little experiment-
ation. A copy of the AT command set for hayes compatible modems is included
in a file called ATCOMAND.TXT. After choosing the specifics for your modem
exit saving your choices. A file called "FFCONFIG.DAT" contains your setup
and is read by Fast Fone on start up.

								  Dialing

Dialing numbers is easy with Fast Fone. Just toggle up and down with arrow
keys or by moving up or down with your mouse. You may also move through your
directory quickly by pressing [Page Up] or [Page Down]. If your directory is
in alphabetical order you may also press any alphabet key and the cursor
will move to the beginning of that section. Once you have moved to the select-
ion of your choice all you need to do to dial that number is press your enter
key or your left mouse button. A message will appear instructing you to press
any key to disconnect the modem after you pick up the phone receiver. Simple!

								   Help!

A help screen can be called simply by pressing [F1] and contains a summary
of funtions of all key combinations.

								  Editing

[F2] puts you in the editing mode to change current entry. [F3] allows you
to add an entry at current spot shifting others down. [F4] deletes the current
entry shifting the other entries up. While in editing mode arrow keys and
mouse motion moves the cursor left and right. [Tab] moves the cursor several
spaces at a time. The enter key or the left mouse button accepts data.
[CTRL][RIGHT ARROW] moves the cursor to the beginning of next word.
[CTRL][LEFT ARROW] moves the cursor to beginning of previous word.
[CTRL][END] deletes from cursor position to end of line. [HOME] moves cursor
to beginning of line.[END] moves cursor to end of line. [BACKSPACE] moves
cursor backwards one space. [INSERT] toggles overwrite mode.

							   Logging Calls

To log your call simply press the [F5] key or press the left and right mouse
buttons together. A window will appear with appropriate information. The
registered version of Fast Fone has a feature to allow you to add comments
to the log. When finished with your call press any key or mouse button to stop
the clock. Then press any key again to close the window. The information
will be written to a file on your current drive called "FASTFONE.LOG". This
file can be loaded into any word processor for editing. Even if you delete
this file a new "FASTFONE.LOG" will be created the first time you use the LOG
feature again, so feel free to delete this file after it serves your purpose.

							Printing the Directory

[F6] prints Fast Fone directory. Set up printer before choosing this feature.

Page 4
							  Sorting Directory

[F8] sorts the directory in alphabetical order. If you accidentally press
this key and you do not want your directory in alphabetical order do not
save your changes to disk. This also gives you an opportunity to use your
directory in alphabetical order for just one session.

							Saving Changes to Disk

[F9] saves changes to present disk and directory. If changes are made you
will be prompted to save when you exit.

								  Exiting

[F10] exits to DOS. If changes have been made the program will give you an
opportunity to save or abandon these changes.

						  Printing Registration Form

[ALT-F] prints registration form. Without your support this program and
others in the shareware arena cannot continue to improve or be written.
