                                                   How to Join RaceNet

         Abstract
         ~~~~~~~~~
         RaceNet (tm) utilizes both the PCRelay, MarkMail, TNET, RNET,
         QNET and NetMail 5.0  software.  These packages are the easiest
         network mail packages to install.  A typical installation takes
         only 15 minutes!  They are fast, efficient and requires NO
         regular maintenance after initial setup.
         If your idea of running a BBS is to spend as much time
         communicating and the least amount of time maintaining, then
         these software packages are for you.
         Purpose
         ~~~~~~~~
         The RaceNet (tm) Network is a publicly accessible tool for
         communicating messages, opinions and ideas over great
         distances. Each message released through the RaceNet (tm)
         network has the potential to convey its information to
         thousands of people in a relatively short period of time.
         Because the Racenet (tm) network utilizes inexpensive PC
         hardware and software resources and standard telephone lines,
         it is easily accessible to a large number of enthusiasts.

         History
         ~~~~~~~
         RaceNet started in 1987 as a small motorsports orientated
         network serving the southeastern region of the United
         States -- smack dab in the middle of NASCAR Country.
         RaceNet gradually started experiencing growing pains as
         more and more boards wanted the RaceNet conferences specific
         to every major motorsport and sanctioning body.  The gradual
         growth suddenly took a gigantic leap recently with the
         expansion suddenly from the southeaster coverage to jump out
         of the South and go coast-to-coast.  This started with a HUB
         in Riverside, California, Granada Hills, California, Redondo
         Beach, California and two hubs in Virginia.
         By popular demand, RaceNet has started expanding and
         searching for HUB's and NODE's throughout the remainder of
         the United States.
         Requirements
         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
         Common sense is basically all that is required. Each HUB
         will be responsible for his users and each relaying NODE
         and their users. We do not have conference hosts, however,
         we leave the policing to each HUB. Past experience has
         shown that those who follow racing and participate in
         RaceNet have never given us any reason to solicit
         conference hosts.

         System Administration
         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
         It is the responsibility of each system attached to the
         RaceNet network to decide what is best for them. There are
         no membership requirements that have to be fulfilled to
         become a contributing system on the RaceNet network.
         The guidelines required for proper operation and network
         interaction are minimal and simple. If there is a message or
         message base that you feel is not beneficial to your BBS, you
         may remove that message or message base or limit users access
         to it.  Once a message is inserted into your message base, it
         becomes property of your BBS.  We do discourage any editing
         of messages or tag lines.  If there are any occurrences that
         should require mediation, the Hub involved is to be the
         arbitrator.
         Situations that cannot be handled by affected HUB shall be
         referred to me, Gary Phelps, RaceNet; or Bob Simpson,
         HUBTANDY.
THERE ARE NO MANDATORY CONFERENCES AND THE SERVICE IS FREE!!!
However, to relay with RaceNet's Main Hub (803) 871-9771 there is a
$35 yearly connect fee for long distance callers.  Long distance
callers are welcome to call HUBTANDY (803) 875-2019 for free
access.  BBSs local to the Charleston, SC area wishing to relay must
pay a $25 per quarter connect fee -- doesn't matter which local hub
you call, you must pay the 25 quarterly connect fee ... you have
the choice of relaying locally or calling long distance for the
relays if you feel this will save you money.
As mentioned, there are no mandatory conferences.  However, if you
don't take the RACSYSOP/RACEOPS conf you will not be up-to-date on
changes that are planned or taking place.  It is suggested that all
sysops pull the RACSYSOP conf.
*******************************************************************
If interested in being a HUB for RaceNet, contact me, Gary Phelps,
at (803) 871-9560 (voice).  Each HUB is free to pull in as many
NODES as they wish using either PCRelay or NetMail software as
well at RNET, TNET or QNET.
ATTN:  Other Net Sysops
RaceNet is currently the distribution point (hub) for:  RaceNet,
European RaceNet, Canadian RaceNet, DragNet, WildNet, PetNet,
GreenNet, Sierra Club, and EarthNet.  If you have a network and
interested in feeding RaceNet your network, we'd be happy to be
a distribution point for your network also.  Our relaying sysops
enjoy making one call, entering one mail door and getting all the
nets at once.  Feel free to merge your existing conferences with
ours ... we don't worry about net taglines either.
