			    Cole's Mill Golf Club
			  a JNSE Original Design by
				Dave Dykeman

Welcome to Cole's Mill. Originally intended as a practice course for
personal use, and for object experimentation, I didn't decide to release this
course to the public until I'd already been playing it (in a very rough form
for almost 4 months. The setting is just up the road from New York City, far
enough away to get to some real country. This just happens to be the area
where I live.<g>
I'd especially like to thank Jeff Merten, Bob Polin, and Gene
Rodriguez III for their help in bringing the course to a point where I felt
it was ready to be released. An idea man and two fine designers, what a
consulting group! (BTW I want everyone to know that the falls on #9 have been
officially christened as Merten Falls.<g>) I also stole some of the ground
cover type objects from Bob's Nonami course.
The course itself is by no means a pushover. If you are a fan of nice
flat, easy to read, single break greens, you might want to skip this one.
There are a few tee shots that require moving the ball to one side or the
other and most of the tee shots will benefit from some amount of draw or fade.
There are also some elevation changes which, to me, are right on the edge of
the JNSE software's ability to handle. I hope you don't find them any worse
than what might be encountered in real life.

The object file:

Most of the objects are either built from the ground up or highly modified
from other pre-existing objects. A few are slightly modified versions of
rocks, grasses, and bushes "borrowed" from other designers; the only ones I
know I took something from are Bob Polin and Mark Willett, and I'm not sure
what I got from who. If you see something familiar feel free to take credit
for it.

The background:

The background for Cole's Mill began with Brian Silvernail's Rolling Ever-
green background. About the only remaining (nearly intact) piece of Brian's
original background is the sky. I did use the program Deluxe Paint II
Enhanced to place smaller versions of my trees into the background. And also,
mostly because I lacked the proper blues in the JNSE design module, used DP2E
to create the pond/swimming hole. (Does that look like a guy swimming and
another guy sitting on a dock ?) The rest of the background and all of the
original objects were created using the DESIGNER that comes with JNSE.

Colors:

I used JNSEDT to change the grass colors very slightly. I also modified the
color bar colors (slightly), changed the water to my personal taste, and the
sand to a more characteristic coloring for courses in this area. A big thank
you to John Kunyik for this fantastic program.

Comments:

This is my third public release and I think it may be my favorite one to play,
Although I still think Adirondack Preserve looks better. I hope you enjoy
playing Cole's Mill half as much as I enjoyed designing it. And remember, it
is suppose to be fun. If you have any comments, good or bad, about the course
please drop me a line.
